Democrats Turn Hypocritical; Obama Admits Filibuster Of Supreme Court Nominee
As I wrote last Wednesday, rumors have been circulating about the method of replacement when it comes to the recently deceased Supreme Court Justice Antonio Scalia. Will the outgoing President Obama be allowed to appoint another liberal judge or will Congress stall until the next president takes office?
Democrats have become quite hypocritical following the death of Justice Scalia. The Dems have been “up in arms with Senate Republicans who’ve promised to block any Supreme Court nomination from Presdient Barack Obama to replace conservative justice Antonin Scalia, who was found dead at a Texas resort Saturday,” reported MSNBC.
Even Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who suggested back in 2007 that a president should not be allowed to make Supreme Court nominations during his last 18 months in office, has no excuse as to why that tactic shouldn’t be used now.
“I am amused when I hear people who claim to be strict interpreters of the Constitution suddenly reading into a whole series of provisions that are not there,” said Obama at a press conference on Tuesday.
When asked about the actions he took as a senator in 2006, Obama was forced to admit (graciously, of course) to strategically filibustering Judge Samuel Alito while serving as senator in 2006. “What’s fair to say,” he said slowly, “is that how judicial nominations have evolved over time is not historically the fault of any single party. This has become just one more extension of politics. And there are times where folks are in the Senate, and they’re thinking as I just described primarily about, ‘Is this gonna cause me problems in a primary? Is gonna cause me problems with supporters of mine?’ So people take strategic positions, and I understand that.”
