For the past four years, millions of migrants crossed the United States border illegally. This was not a result of best efforts to mitigate the border crisis by the Biden administration. No. No. No. It was by design. It was a willful policy to flood the United States with foreign migrants – the vast majority of whom are in America with questionable legality.

In a CBS interview in 2022, former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson gave the statistical reality. ;According to Johnson:

“It takes six years right now to process an asylum claim once someone has entered this country. And one of the problems is that the bar to qualify initially and establish a ‘case of credible fear’ is relatively low. ; Something like 70% of migrants qualify who seek it.”

BUT, Johnson added that “… the ultimate qualification for asylum, the percentage there, is only about 20%, and it’s six years in between.”

That means that 80 percent of those crossing the border and INELIGIBLE FOR ASYLUM and should not be here – should be deported. They remain in the United States because of that six-year delay in having their cases adjudicated by an immigration judge and the positive efforts of Biden and Democrats to keep them coming.

(PolitiFact challenged the Johnson number. They say that 30 percent of migrants receive asylum from the immigration courts. That still leaves 70 percent of those currently in the country ultimately ineligible for asylum.

The Johnson number and the PolitiFact number only deals with migrants who appear before the immigration courts. ; What about the hundreds of thousands who do not – or the hundreds of thousands of got-aways? ; These folks are ALL in the country illegally.

While President Obama initiated aggressive deportation polices—earning him the moniker “Deporter-in-Chief” — Biden did nothing to control the border. Instead, he implemented policies to encourage and facilitate illegal border crossing – and then policies to protect illegal migrants from deportation once they are here. That is why the border crossing rose to such astronomical levels during his four years in office.

Specifically, what did Biden do to promote illegal border crossing?

Biden used his first days in office to reverse Trump policies that were designed to discourage illegal border crossing. Policies that were working. Biden stopped the construction of the wall – leaving millions of dollars of prefabricated wall sections lying in field to rust. He ended Trump’s “remain in Mexico” agreement that kept migrants in Mexico pending their immigration court hearing.

He allowed Title 42 to expire. While it was established to reduce border crossing during the COVID pandemic, it would have worked just as well as a means of mitigating the border crisis. But that is not what Biden &; Company wanted to do.

Democrats have long used “goodies” to entice illegal border crossers. ; Democrats and the Biden administration often prioritized the needs and desires of migrants over the interests of American citizens. ; Migrants were provided free housing that was needed by disadvantaged and homeless Americans. ; Migrants were housed in parks and recreational facilities used by local children. ; The “goodies also included jobs, schooling, food, healthcare, legal services and even cash. ;

Democrats have long protected migrants from law enforcement –even criminals – through sanctuary programs. ; They ordered local police to not cooperate with Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) by turning over migrants arrested on various charges.

Biden also misused government programs to provide dubious temporary legal status for large numbers of migrants. He used the “humanitarian parole” program to allow migrants to remain in the United States for two years without fear of deportation – regardless of how they entered the country. The protection was extended to Haitians, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans and others.

Biden expanded Temporary Protected Status for many groups. The TPS program was intended for individuals who are fleeing natural disasters or civil unrest. The law also requires cases to be vetted on an individual basis. Biden ignored all those legal requirements and applied the protection on a mass basis without individual vetting.

Then there is the dark side of the Biden immigration policies. ; His approach was far from humanitarian. ; He did not care about the tragic results of his open border policies. ; He turned his back on the presence of criminals among the migrants. ; He ignored the human toll in rapes, murders, slave trafficking, child abuse, robberies, beatings as millions of migrants trekked north – facing dangerous conditions and hostile gangs. ;

Biden allowed the growth of a billion dollar cartel industry along the border –making money from drugs and human trafficking. He literally handed the gangs their “customers”. ; He did nothing to stop the flow of drugs and fentanyl pouring into the country — killing thousands of young Americans. ; ; He said nothing about the migrant crime wave across the nation perpetrated by such gangs as MS13 and Tren de Aragua — nor the many murders, rapes, assaults, robberies and other crimes committed by individual illegal aliens. ; ; He demonstrated a heartless disinterest in the specific acts of violence and grisly murders that plagued the nation as a result of his policies.

We can know that the open border polices of Biden and the democrats were willful by looking at what Trump has accomplished in less than 100 days. In March of 2025, there were 29,065 illegal border crossers apprehended. In March of 2024 – Biden’s last year in office — there were 246.505. In March of 2023, it was 259,471. The Trump decrease was most notable at former “hot spots” along the southern border. In one such location in March of 2024, there were 4,488 apprehensions per day. In March of 2025, it is down to 264 per day.

So, why couldn’t Biden and the Democrats achieve similar results? There is only one credible reason. They did not want to do so.

And now that the border is more secure, Democrats are doing everything possible to prevent all the illegal and ineligible migrants they allowed in the country from being deported – even the heinous criminals.

Biden is gone, but Democrats are still working hard to prevent deportations and to get those deported back in the United States. They went to court to try to stop a plane load of criminals from being deported to El Salvador. A delegation of Democrats recently traveled to El Salvador to plead the case for returning hundreds of deportees. Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen travelled to El Salvador to build sympathy and beg for the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Across the nation, they are filing scores of lawsuits designed to inhibit the deportation process. (If you see any efforts by Democrats to facilitate the deportation of illegal border crossers – especially the vicious criminals – let me know. I have not been able to find any examples.)

Fortunately, Trump has the support of more than 80 percent of the American people for his measured deportation policies. ; According to CNN’s number guru, Harry Enten, 56 percent of Americans want mass deportation for ALL undocumented aliens.

Hard to figure why Democrats are not in favor of secure borders and a legal immigration process. Some say they see those crossing the border as future Democrat voters – or that by allowing these folks in, the American Hispanic citizens will smile on the effort.

They lose on three counts. Hispanic voters are trending toward the GOP. Also, what makes Democrats think honest hard working Hispanic Americans want the disruption and crimes in their neighborhood? And a growing percentage of illegal border crossers are not Hispanic. Large numbers come from Ukraine, Russia, India and some 42 other countries – including the Middle East. The caravans have included individuals on the terrorist watch list.

Perhaps Democrats’ support for open borders and opposition to deportations is to placate the radical left that is gaining more and more power within the Party. Or … maybe it is just that they have an obsessive opposition to anything Trump does – even the good stuff. Whatever it is, the Biden and the Democrats’ open border policies have wreaked havoc on America.

So there ‘tis.

Democrats fighting against deportation … period
