Democrats engaging in wishful thinking re Trump and Musk

One of the speculative narratives permeating the left-wing Democrat echo chamber is some sort of future schism between President Trump and billionaire businessman Elon Musk.  As the theory goes, they are both alpha males who will compete more than cooperate.  Those on the left talk about some future blow up as though it is a matter of certainty.

MSNBC’s Alex Wagner — along with her panelists — got downright giddy over the imagined prospect of a break in the mutual admiration – some might say “bromance” – between Trump and Musk.  The MSNBC crowd concluded that there was no way Trump and Musk could maintain a friendship.  Their egos that are too big for both to fit into the same room.  I beg to differ.

Wagner is only one example of Democrat wishful thinking.  Ron Dicker, of the HuffPost, penned a commentary headlined, “‘Morning Joe’ Panelists Nail the Moment When Trump Will Dump Elon Musk.”

In the article, Dicker referenced Jonathan Lemire’s opinion that a Trump speech reassuring the nation that he was in charge demonstrated a feeling of insecurity on the part of the President-elect. (It was actually a lighthearted statement, but Democrats are having trouble being lighthearted these days.)

Lemire went on with his imaginary journey to say, “When the Time Magazine cover drops suggesting that Elon Musk is actually running the show, that may be it.”  Maybe?  Yeah, like maybe the American Republic will end on Inauguration Day – as has been suggested by those on the nutty left.

They are already predicting that Trump policies will fail – and his base will turn against him.  They predict voter remorse on an epic scale.  They see 2026 as the year America will restore Democrats to power in Congress and in down ballot offices across the nation.  All wishful thinking.

In the spirit of a self-proving prophecy, the commentators on the left are trying to provoke the break-up by predicting it – and by poking Trump.  They hope to get under Trump’s skin by claiming that Musk is acting like the President – is the “shadow President.”  They are attempting to needle Trump by claiming that Musk is pursuing policies on his own.

They argue that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is a losing proposition.  Since it has no authority, they claim it has no influence over Congress – which is where all federal spending cuts have to originate.  DOGE is essentially a lobbying operation, but with more influence than any lobby in Washington.  It has the influence of the President of the United States—and for the next two years, at least, Republicans control of Congress.

Counting on a breakup of the Trump/Musk friendship is a fool’s dream.  Trump is in charge.  He knows it and so does Musk.  In my judgment, the bond between Trump and Musk is solid – based on both political viewpoints and personal friendship.

That was evident on New Year’s Eve when Musk was seated next to Trump during the Mar-a-Lago festivities.  The video of Trump, Musk and First Lady Melania doing “The Trump” to the tune of “W.M.C.A.” says a lot – and incidentally, it was the most watched video of the holiday.  Musk will stick with the person who “brung him to the dance,” as they say.

So, there ‘tis.

    Darren: wrong Tom, smart guy.

“who gives a shit Facts.” Think you said it all.

But hey, predict your huge red wave. You have done it before. Tom, again, with head firmly implanted in his ass, predicts yet another red wave in 2026. Darren appears to be joining him there. How cozy.

They probably did this in 2018 when the predicted red wave delivered 2 Senate seats while losing 41 seats in the House and 7 governorships. Yeah, that must have sucked.

Probably did the same in 2022 when his predicted red wave delivered a loss of one seat in the Senate, addition of nine seats in the House and lost 2 governorships. Not sure how you call this one.

FYI: you had a solid win in 2024, but not a people’s mandate, barely the people’s choice. You may rule the roost in the PBP fishbowl, but in the real world, you barely bat 500 ball on the issues.

IF you continue to proceed as if you have the mandate to do whatever is in your mind without discussion, without soliciting the people’s view, your future is assured. This time your “crushing” win gained 4 Senate seats and lost a seat in the House where you still retained a slim margin. So you have the WH, Congress, and the Scotus, but the Congress by a hair, not a mandate. And no changes for governors at the State level.

While you had a solid win in 2024, there was no red wave, factually, in 2018, 2022, and even 2024. Tom is wrong, but then again, he wears the asshat which apparently, Darren shares.

I keep saying: two years, and that’s all you got. So, I hope Trump listens to the big mouths of the maga movement. Best thing that could happen for 2026.

Remember, only two weeks left for Trump to end the Ukraine war and meet his first campaign promise. Said it would only take 24 hours, shorter than time needed to end Obamacare and begin Trumpdoesnotcare.

Frank (truth in) Danger. I recall predicting Trump would win in 2024, the GOP would retain the House and the take over the Senate. What were you predicting? Way too early to predict 2026, so your wishful thinking is meaningless — more mental masturbation. While the popular vote was close in 2024, Trump ran the table. That is still impressive — especially when you consider his election would be the end of the American democracy. No more future elections. The beginning of the fascist Trump dictatorship. LMAO. Did you really believe that campaign malarky or were you just perpetrating political lies, hoping to fool voters? I guess I was right in calling the end of the Republic narrative a bunch of political bullcrap — just like the Russian conspiracy bullcrap debunked by Robert Mueller and the Department of Justice. And what happened to that phony insurrection and ongoing coup attempt narrative? And then there was the fearmongering narrative that Trump supporters would disrupt the polls. The crazies even armored polling places and put snipers on roofs. Paranoia or campaign bullcrap? I am not sure I have even seen more baseless and extreme narratives in a political campaign. I never could figure out if your EXTENSIVE and obsessive writings were based on ignorance and gullibility — or did you just join the partisan prevaricators?

I hope in this new year you can get a grip and try to be a more intelligent and honest pundit — less of the snarky sarcasm, pettiness, obsessive negativism, personal insults and lies.

This article gets a Stop The Spin (STS) rating of 4. It’s really a boring nothing burger article where Larry displays his usual spin.

    1) Actually most psychologists that have been interviewed seem to think that it was not so light hearted. And they were not talking about the two being alpha male. They were talking about the two being narcissists and that they will be competing for the spot light.

    2) Many have pointed to the co-dependence of Trump on Musk is a sign of weakness further shown by Trump not getting his debt ceiling eliminated while Musk got the GOP to remove from the budget bill the punishing rules on companies doing business with China. Co-dependencies often crash somewhere along the way.

    3) Some of Trump’s base is already turning against him, i.e. those that are anti-immigration, Latinos that have undocumented family living with them, MAGA that do not think they are dumb and lazy, MAGA who do not like Musk, etc. The fissures have begun. Wait until mass deportations cause food prices to rise – this is when the fun will begin.

    4) It is possible that the DOGE is a fool’s errand. While it may have the backing of the presidency, it does not have Dem support, margins are thin in the House, and when other GOP start getting impacted by DOGE and they cannot make good on their promises, the Dems just may be proven correct. Only time will tell – but Larry seems to know for sure despite the fact that such DOGE-like efforts in the past have failed.

Personally, I think that the Trump-Musk co-dependence is unhealthy for the country. Musk has purchased a president and a government. Trump has purchase a king maker. and private bank Their interest is money, power, and policy that will not be good for the every day American, nor for national security, seniors, our medical system, defense, free speech, etc. Time will tell how much damage they will do.

Unhealthy for a billionaire to buy our President for a few hundred million and then exert his will upon the nation? Well, still might be better than Trump’s last crowd of jailbirds.

But friendship, relationship lasting. Do any of Trump’s relationships not built on quid-pro–quo last? Got many life-long buddies? Known him since we were kids? Wharton alum chums? No, the words Trump and friend are not often used together except to talk of breaking up. There have the marriage, they are in the honeymoon period, already had a bit of a dust up over the spending bill, no finger pointing yet, but a lot of scuttlebutt and, during which time, the spotlight was on the bride, not the groom. Does not bode well except for yet another Trump divorce.

Personally, I would like to see Mush re-organize the government and furlough 50% of them. Tis better to build than destroy and we like to build. And while his companies remain standing, they are already Mushy with Tesla doing well in China, not a good thing really, but down in sales for the first time as stocks skyrocket post October on “the dream.” First up is will Mush temper Don on the EV credits? Worked for Visa’s, so why not? SpaceX is private and value estimates continue to increase. X too went private when Mush bought it as his propaganda platform, makes sense. It’s value is estimated to have dropped by 80% as of the end of 2024. Users may have increased but ad revenues plummet. His The Boring Company, a brick n mortar tunneling company’s value is down slightly, likewise for xAi although this company has strong backers like Fidelity and Blackrock. His Neuralink company has doubled it’s value after a successful test this summer. But it’s clear that Musk is a high risk gambler, good for him, but his companies suffer boom or bust swings as Musk moves on. His trick is being Musk, going private, and limiting investors to make for a exclusive club. Works so far, but to say he is booming, or he handles reorganization or downsizing well would be questionable.

Remember, when you have a lot of money, a total loss is difficult and takes much time, unless there’s a global economic upheaval. Generally these guys could put it in T-bills and still turn hundreds of millions. This guy swings for the fences, put’s his emotions and politics into his business decisions, and creates big failures to go with his big successes. He’s whimsical and mercurial.

    Two years.
