
<p>Democratic Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA) has introduced a measure to expel Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from Congress after she filed articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden. </p>



<p>Greene is a freshman lawmaker who has irritated colleagues during the past year by refusing to wear a face mask. She then wore one that read &#8220;censored.&#8221; </p>



<p>Greene supports the QAnon conspiracy theory and believes firmly that the 2020 election was hacked in favor of Joe Biden. When she filed articles of impeachment against the newly-inaugurated president, she claimed Biden was unfit to serve based on a “pattern of abuse and power” that includes his “quid pro quo in Ukraine.” </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Rep. Gomez wants Greene out of Congress for promoting conspiracy theories and backing calls to violence. ;</strong></h3>



<p>“As if it weren’t enough to amplify conspiracy theories that the September 11 ;attacks were an inside job and the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was staged, a string of recent media reports has now confirmed that Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had previously supported social media posts calling for political violence against the Speaker of the House, members of Congress, and former President Barack Obama,” ;argues Gomez. ;</p>



<p>“Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Her very presence in office represents a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve our government, and it is with their safety in mind, as well as the security of institutions and public servants across our country, that I call on my House colleagues to support my resolution to immediately remove Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from this legislative body.”</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Expulsion from either chamber of Congress requires a two-thirds majority vote from that chamber</strong>.</h3>



<p><strong>It is unlikely that Republicans will support Gomez. </strong></p>



<p>When asked about the violent content she allegedly endorsed on social media, Greene said that she has “teams of people” managing her accounts and that activity on those accounts doesn&#8217;t necessarily reflect her views. She then accused “Fake News CNN” of writing a “hit piece” on her. ;</p>



<p><em>President Donald Trump has described Greene as a “future Republican Star.” ;</em></p>



<p><strong>Author&#8217;s Note: </strong>If Gomez’s attempt to expel Greene works, it will set a very dangerous precedent that the GOP could abuse in the future. Kicking an elected official out of office (whether she’s crazy or not) is about as unconstitutional as you can get.</p>
