Democrat D.C. Councilman Arrested for Bribery

Elected Democrats continue to be arrested for serious crimes and the arrest of a D.C. councilman over the past weekend adds one more to the endless list of criminal Democrats.

Trayon White Sr. was arrested by the FBI on Sunday, as reported by The Western Journal. At first, it wasn’t clear why Councilman White was arrested. The D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson was cited saying that he was unaware of the reason behind White’s arrest and that they were just trying to gather facts at the moment.

In an updated story later that day by the Associated Press on Monday (August 19) White’s arrest was attributed to bribery charges. AP wrote:

White agreed in June to accept roughly $156,000 in kickbacks and cash payments in exchange for pressuring government agency employees to extend two companies’ contracts worth over $5 million, prosecutors said.

Details of White’s arrest reveal that the FBI employed an informant to catch White in the act of taking $35000 on four separate occasions. The court papers for White’s prosecution also included photo evidence of the councilman stuffing an envelope of cash in his jacket pocket. The story noted that White, who is a black man, represents a predominantly black ward that is twice as poor as the rest of the district.

White is also said to have a history of making antisemitic comments dating as far back as 2018 when he posted on social media that Jews control the weather.

This is not the first time for White to have been caught wrongdoing. As The Western Journal reported, the D.C. campaign finance office fined White $40,000 earlier this year over campaign finance violations in his 2020 and 2022 campaigns. In early March, Fox News reported that White owed around $59,000 in public funds that he received via D.C.’s Fair Elections Program.

The news of White’s arrest for bribery comes at the same time when another Democrat politician is on trial for the murder of a journalist in Nevada. Robert Telles, 47 and a former Democratic Clark County administrator of estates, is accused of murdering investigative journalist Jeff German in September 2022. German, who worked for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was found slashed to death outside his home.

AP reported this week that photographic evidence linking Telles to German’s murder was presented before the jury on Monday after four days of testimony from two dozen witnesses. The photographic evidence includes hundreds of images of German’s home and neighborhood found stored on the accused’s cell phone and computer. German had been publishing investigative stories critical of Telles and the Democrat seems to have decided to silence him once and for all.
