The Democratic National Convention kicked off this afternoon in Philadelphia. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was scheduled to speak at the opening and closing of the event, was notably absent.
As we wrote on Sunday, Wasserman Schultz was forced out of the convention schedule following a massive email leak proving her “shocking” bias towards Hillary Clinton (and against Senator Sanders). This should not come as a surprise, considering the fact that Wasserman Schultz served as campaign co-chair for Hillary’s unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2008.
Wasserman Schultz has announced that she will be resigning from her position as Party Chair following the conclusion of the convention this Thursday – and joining Hillary Clinton’s campaign team.
“I stepped down the other day because I wanted to make sure that having brought us to this momentous day and to Philadelphia and planned the convention that is going to be the best one that we’ve ever had in our party’s history that this needs to be all about making sure that everyone knows that Hillary Clinton would make the best president,” she said.
She may not be on the schedule, but that didn’t stop her from making an appearance at the convention. To get inside, she had to fight her way through a crowd of angry Democrats booing her and shouting “shame!” Some of them sported signs reading “Thanks for the ‘help,’ Debbie.”
Many of the protestors were former supporters of Bernie Sanders, who had previously called for Wasserman Schultz to step down and had criticized her as “unqualified” for the position of Party Chair. Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, has asked the Florida Rep. to be “honorary chair” of her campaign.
“I am glad that she has agreed to serve as honorary chair of my campaign’s 50-state program to gain ground and elect Democrats in every part of the country, and will continue to serve as a surrogate for my campaign nationally,” wrote Clinton.
Wasserman Schultz was more than happy to join Team Clinton and has promised that we will see her “every day on the campaign trail.”
For the time being, Ohio Representative Marcia Fudge has taken Wasserman Schultz’s place as convention chair.
Editor’s note: Why is no one accusing Clinton of corruption here? She essentially bought off the DNC chairman who helped her win against her Democractic rival, DWS takes the heat when it all comes out, so now Hillary hands her a job. This is scary corrupt.
