The bellicose bloviating mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, has been making the rounds for a one hundred percent bailout of the Big Apple. According to his estimates, that would include $3.5 billion in extra cost the City endured because of the COVID-19 outbreak that hit New York more than any city in America. In fact, more than any nation on earth, Including the densely populated nations of China and India –and the hard-hit nations of Italy and Spain.
De Blasio also wants Uncle Sam to cover what he says is more than $7 billion in lost revenues as a result of the shutdown. You can bet that those are not final figures. The costs will continue to rise.
Apparently, de Blasio feels no sense of his own responsibility. He passes all the blame on President Trump while pleading not to politicize the crisis. That is so typical of a progressive. They see Washington as the center of all political power.
When Trump said he would take charge, de Blasio and his Democrats of the same feather called the President a dictator. He has no right … no authority … to take charge of re-opening the country. It is amusing that progressives hate Trump so much that they actually invoked the concept of states’ rights for the first time since they used it to defend slavery and segregation.
When Trump essentially said, “Okay. You governors will make the decision on re-opening,” the Democrats accused Trump of walking away from the problem.
The Trump administration – which includes the highly praised Dr. Antony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx – is doing all that it can to mount the fight against the COVID-19 virus – and more than it should have to do. That is because politicians like de Blasio failed miserably in doing their jobs.
New York City was not prepared sufficiently because of de Blasio. His administration never anticipated, prepared for or harbored the resources to fight a large-scale breakout even though the public health infrastructure – hospitals, doctors and supplies – are all de Blasio’s direct responsibility.
His failure was compounded by the fact that he did not take the pandemic seriously. Oh, I know that is the charge he hypocritically levels at Trump, but check the record. He kept the schools open against the advice of the medical professionals long after other mayors were closing theirs. In March, he told the people of New York that it was safe to go about their business as usual. Lack of preparation, not closing schools and giving New Yorkers terrible advice is a good part of the reason the City is suffering disproportionately.
It is more than disappointing to witness just how biases and corrupt the New York Media giants have become. While they hammer Trump incessantly, they constantly cover de Blasio’s ample ass. In a recent de Blasio interview on MSNBC “Morning Joe,” there was nothing but praise for the Mayor. No criticism – not even tough questions. Perennial panelist Donny Deutsch thanked de Blasio for the great job he is doing. Really? More dead than anywhere else in the world and those news show sycophants say he is doing a great job.
Only once have I witnessed anyone from MSNBC or CNN tiptoe into the question of de Blasio’s culpability. CNN’s Chuck Todd asked the Mayor if he bore any responsibility in view of his early advice to continue to go about normally. De Blasio responded incredulously that he responded as fast as he could. That was the end of the inquiry. I momentarily wondered if Todd would challenge the Major in view of his accusations against Trump. I was not surprised that Todd let it pass.
To the people of New York City: Elections have consequences – and you elected this radical progressive nincompoop to be your mayor. Consequently, you now are going through the worst of the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Your Mayor now wants us to pay for his incompetence. Your House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that it is imperative that Uncle Sam bail out the states and cities. Not only is that a bad idea, it is an impossible proposal. How many times are the people of America going to have to bail out the messes created by the folks you put in charge. You have followed the progressives’ Utopian fairytales into the voting booths – and now you again have the consequences.
So, there ‘tis.
