Colorado Mayor Tries to Cancel Pledge of Allegiance

&NewLine;<p>I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands&comma; one nation under God&comma; indivisible&comma; with liberty and justice for all&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>To anyone who thinks this should be canceled in modern society&comma; the American people would appreciate it if you would just go and find yourself another place to live&period; If you do not love this land and what it stands for&comma; why are you still here&quest; Not to mention&comma; if you are a leader of this great country who believes this should not be upheld&comma; you should be fired from your job as soon as possible&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>This&comma; apparently&comma; has happened&period; The mayor Shane Fuhrman of a Colorado town called Silverton decided to attempt to cancel the Pledge of Allegiance from its town meetings&period; His stated excuse for the action was&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Due to direct and indirect threats&comma; inappropriate comments in and out of public meetings&comma; and the general divisiveness this is creating in our community&comma; we will not be doing the Pledge of Allegiance during town of Silverton board of trustee meetings”&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Board trustee member Molly Barela then asked&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Any other unilateral decisions we need to know about&quest;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Fuhrman responded&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;If you’d like to find somewhere in the code that does not permit me to do this&comma; I welcome that discussion at our next meeting”&period; A blatant attempt to disregard her concerns&comma; to which she continued to respond saying&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;It’s just been done for a long time&period; We all took an oath&period; And we&comma; as the board&comma; collectively decided it would be done”&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The meeting resumed&comma; but at the end of the public comment section&comma; one woman stood up and declared that she wanted to recite the Pledge of Allegiance&period; With that&comma; nine people including two board members with Barela herself&comma; all stood up in good American faith to recite the Pledge despite opposition from the mayor&period; Angry with them standing up for American values&comma; Fuhrman told them that they were behaving out of order and said that they would be forced to leave if there were any more interruptions to the public meeting&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>After the meeting&comma; Molly Barela spoke to local news KDVR about the incident&comma; saying that &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;To tell members of the public they are not allowed to say the Pledge of Allegiance during public comment and threaten to have them removed&comma; that it was one strike and you’re out policy&comma; violates every single one of their first amendment rights”&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>In support&comma; Representative Lauren Boebert&comma; a Republican from Colorado tweeted remarks condemning the mayor&&num;8217&semi;s decision with&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Silverton CO’s Mayor unilaterally banned the Pledge of Allegiance at city meetings&period; It’s hard to put into words what kind of anti-American disgrace this is&period; Mayor Fuhrman should resign and purchase a one-way ticket to China where he won’t have to worry about hearing the pledge&excl;”&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Amen to that&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
