Clinton’s Anti-Catholic Campaign Exposed

Clinton’s antireligious attitude during her campaign has continued to increase.

“Rights have to exist in practice — not just on paper,” said Clinton last year. “Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs, and structural biases have to be changed.” 

Some of these religious beliefs she is referring to include those against abortion. Apparently, the Clinton campaign has plans to pressure the Catholic church to give up on these beliefs.

In the latest leaked emails from the Clinton campaign, one of these plans is exposed. Her team plans organizations with “Catholic” in their name and have them promote progressive ideology that is in opposition to bishops.

“There needs to be a Catholic Spring, in which Catholics themselves demand the end of a middle ages dictatorship and the beginning of a little democracy and respect for gender equality in the Catholic Church,” wrote Sandy Newman, president of Voices for Progress, in a leaked email to John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign chairman. “Is contraceptive coverage an issue around which that could happen. The Bishops will undoubtedly continue the fight. Does the Catholic Hospital Association support of the Administration’s new policy, together with “the 98%” create an opportunity? Of course, this idea may just reveal my total lack of understanding of the Catholic church, the economic power it can bring to bear against nuns and priests who count on it for their maintenance, etc. Even if the idea isn’t crazy, I don’t qualify to be involved and I have not thought at all about how one would “plant the seeds of the revolution,” or who would plant them.”

“We created Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good to organize for a moment like this. But I think it lacks the leadership to do so now. Likewise Catholics United. Like most Spring movements, I think this one will have to be bottom up,” wrote Podesta in response.

Instead of protecting religious freedom, Clinton is trying to do the opposite.

But, wait there’s more. A second email chain shows the Clinton patronizing Catholics in the conservative movement.  

“They must be attracted to the systematic thought and severely backwards gender relations and must be totally unaware of Christian democracy,” wrote John Halpin, a scholar at the Center for American Progress, to Podesta and Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director.

“I imagine they think it is the most socially acceptable politically conservative religion. Their rich friends wouldn’t understand if they became evangelicals,” said Palmieri.

Her anti-Catholic campaign is obviously not helping her get support from this religious segment of the population.  

Trump’s support, on the other hand, is up by 38-51% from Catholics and 75% amongst white evangelicals.  

So, Clinton’s anti-Catholic position isn’t going unnoticed. 

Bishop Thomas Tobin has said that the emails “reveal the existence of a toxic, anti-Catholic prejudice within the Clinton campaign.”

“The messages marginalize faithful Catholics, ridicule Catholic beliefs, and promote ideological division in the Church,” wrote Bishop Tobin on Facebook following the recent release of the Clinton team emails. “They call for the ‘end of a middle-ages dictatorship and the beginning of a little democracy and respect for gender equality in the Catholic Church.”
