
<p>What was the role of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the January 6, 2021, protest against the massively rigged presidential election? It’s been five years and the federal agency is still hiding the information while conservative investigator Tom Fitton continues to pursue the hidden truth behind the January 6 chaos.</p>



<p>On January 13, President of Judicial Watch Tom Fitton posted a video to update the public on his efforts to unmask the truth about the role of the CIA in the January 6 incident at the U.S. Capitol in D.C. in 2021. In the video, Fitton shared his earlier findings through a lawsuit that forced the federal government in 2024 to reveal that the CIA had directly engaged in the events of January 6 at the federal Capitol.</p>



<p>Judicial Watch obtained 88 pages of documents via a lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for January 6 records. The documents revealed that the CIA had deployed dog teams and bomb techs to the D.C. on January 6 as part of the agency’s “January 7 Intel chain.” Fitton questioned what exactly did these CIA operatives did there since CIA is not supposed to act as law enforcement against Americans inside the country. Fitton wondered whether there was a legal process that allows CIA such action.</p>



<p>Fitton then talked about the response from the CIA in December 2025 to the Judicial Watch questions about the details of their January 6 activities at the D.C. The CIA told the federal court hearing the case that they were still looking for records and were not sure when their search would be complete, and that their search could take four more years.</p>



<p>Fitton also reminded that in their lawsuits against federal agencies such as the CIA, Judicial Watch is fighting for truth against the Justice Department (DOJ) as well since DOJ attorneys represent the federal agencies in the court. He questioned why the same lack of transparency surrounding these records as experienced in the Biden administration continues during the current Trump administration. </p>

<p>On January 9, just days before offering this update on CIA records, Judicial Watch posted an update on its lawsuit against the D.C. administration to obtain the January 6 bodycam footage from the local police. The update stated:</p>



<p><em>The Metropolitan Police Department continues to withhold the January 6 footage because it claims that the faces and voices of every individual who is not law enforcement personnel in the videos for personal privacy reasons.</em></p>



<p>Judicial Watch added that D.C. police was asking for more than $1.5 million for redacting those faces and voices from the footage in question.</p>



<p>Before the role of the CIA in January 6 was revealed by Judicial Watch, conservative journalists and investigators revealed the extensive role of the FBI in the incident. The answers about FBI’s role in the protest and the limited amount of violence around the Capitol are still wanted by conservatives who were the victims that day and afterwards as a nationwide witch-hunt was launched by the federal government that politically targeted them.</p>
