Brett Baier sipping at the Kool- Aide

Brett Baier sipping at the Kool- Aide

I have always considered FOX News’ Bret Baier as a reasonable news analyst.  I have not always agreed with his opinions, but they were still in what I call the “reasonable range.”   I was disappointed in hearing his observations about the work of Nancy Pelosi’s one-sided Select Committee.  Baier has not chugged down the Kool-Aid, but he has done some sipping.

While he recognizes that the Committee is one-sided, he seems to see that as a minor issue.  In fact, it is the issue that completely obliterates the credibility of the Committee.  We should be perfectly clear that NO ONE-SIDED TRIBUNAL WILL EVER … EVER … EVER ARRIVE AT THE WHOLE TRUTH.  That is why the entire American legal system and culture is founded on the right of defense – or the other view.

Without cross-examination and challenges, the result is prosecutorial propaganda – especially when it was the avowed mission of the tribunal to “get Trump” and a throng of alleged seditionists.  Anyone who puts total faith in the Select Committee are either hopelessly partisan … highly gullible or … stupid.

Any objective critical thinker would reject – or at least be very suspect – of the work of a one-sided tribunal.  That is how authoritarians work.  That is how inquisitions work.  That is how the Democratic Party worked in the old southland.  A flawed process cannot arrive at a whole truth.

Baier seems to think that they can.  He is willing to accept the accusations … the testimony … and the political dog-and-pony production as germane to – as they say – getting to the bottom of things.  He claims that the Committee has produced important and powerful testimony.

He talks about the outrageous behavior of the President as if that translates into a crime.  It does not.

Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger has been the most outspoken member of the Committee – declaring that they have uncovered several crimes.  Baier would be better served by listening more carefully to other members of the Committee.  When asked if they believe Trump committed any crimes, other members of the Committee answer in vague terms – or avoid answering altogether.  They will not even – at this point – say whether they will make Trump or others the subjects of a criminal referral to the Department of Justice.

Baier should be a bit more analytical in his analyses.  He is giving his viewers the wrong impression.

So, there ‘tis.

When will the right understand that this is just a hearing, NOT a trial? When grand juries operate all they get are inputs from the prosecution. There are NO defense witnesses or cross examination in the grand jury process. The Jan 6th hearings are the same.

What you WANT is an actual trial, where the defense can cross examine the prosecution witnesses.

Better hope for your sake that doesn’t happen.

    • tom

I agree Andy! This is an information gathering effort. The information passed on to the DOJ will be subject to scrutiny and charges will be determined. Good point about a grand jury hearing. I sat on one of them! You are correct! I think the problem with some folks is that there heads are so far up Trumpism and lies that their ears are plugged. And to add to you point, just because some members of the committee have been restrained in their opinion of Trump committing crimes does not mean that they do not think Trump committed a crime. They are willing to be restrained and let our democratic and jurisprudence processes work!

  2. Frank stetson

Be careful what you ask for.

It’s on baby the DOJ is investigating Donald Trump for criminal activities.

The question is do you want to provide the easy way out and impeach him before you get your way.

That way he escaped jail, we escaped further damage to the office of the presidency, you escape a long drawn out gory battle probably to 2024 and beyond, and we move on, hopefully making our democracy stronger than I was before

As I mentioned before, Ari Melbourne did a pretty good wrapup on MSNBC including a very easy to follow visual line chart of all the different plots and plans, why they started, and why they ended. The 1/6 was just the final Hail Mary, the entire plan at least had seven elements, Some discreet, and some connected

Otherwise, Brett it’s just the tip of the iceberg has more and more see the light of day.

    • Perry

It’s all a political stunt. The DOJ ain’t smart enough to catch real criminals

      • Ben

Yes. The democrats get away with everything. They are the main reason that we have corruption in the country. And the sleazy bastards won’t crack down on crime.

  3. Joe

He has been more than sipping the kool=aid, this guy, has TDS like all the dumbocraps. Somehting u can’t get rid of, and will eventually kill u, if not REMEDIED.

    • Ben

Larry goes off on Braier and the local folk blame Democrats and the DOJ? It’s DDS and they ain’t drillin teeth, but certainly whiffin the nitrous.

As in all Democrats disappeared their problems would be solved.

FOX Entertainment has been moving away from its supportive relationship with the former president. Expediency in its politics demands a shift towards reality, but not a complete sea change. Brett Bauer may be a FOX trial balloon experiment to test the GOP’s tolerance for hard truths. As FOX is a for profit company, it does business intentionally leaving nothing to chance.
As for Brett the commentator personality and Brett the private citizen in the former he plays the part in the roll of entertainer. In the later he is himself and may have private personal opinions quite different from the ones in his script FOX’s writers create for him.
Any lucid clear minded thinker will use objective critical analysis In reasoning between truth and fiction in serious matters like an insurrection targeting a national election. The HR Investigative Committee for Jan 6 has been charged with making a complete investigation into the event. Where and to whom the investigation would lead could not hinder the Committee’s search for evidence of fact proof of truth. Truth essential to discovery and obtaining a mental picture and size scope.
If what the GOP says turns out as the case the Committee ‘s findings make, then the consequences are of one nature. On the other hand, if it discovers certain persons had perpetrated lawless acts, then those persons will face legal consequences of another nature
Indictments and charges appropriate to the offenses should an will follow. It is the law.
When persons charged with federal offenses receive a hearing before a court judge, then the accused may present evidence in defense.
No small amount of objections on Trump’s side and by Trump himself have been played to the court of public opinion. These objections have no standing before the Committee’s work investigating .
We hold that persons indicted or charged with a crime are innocent until proven otherwise by a judge and or jury in court. A former president is to be treated under law no better no worse than any other citizen. Yet, in reality, persons with privilege only money and status provide receive preferential treatment by arrangement with the system called Justice,
Brett, for his part, may or may not be partaking of the so called KOOL-AID of the Committee. Even so, to date his commentary amounts to propaganda and the sponsoring of conspiracy theories propping up aTrump’s authoritarian compulsion.
What does he believe about the 2020 election.
And, would he vote for Trump if he was on the ballot in 2024.
Larry has shown his colors as true red in convection by his speaking to contemporary social, economic, and political issues. He has put his cards on the table regarding Democratic Party and decisively the Biden Administration in the belief he is more equipped to make decisions in all areas than is Biden. His reasoning, together with others of like mind, would rather Trump held forth from the White House.
One, can only imagine the condition this nation would be enduring at present and what the past year and some would have brought. What of our health in a pandemic? Putin’s war with Ukraine and aid? Russia or Ukraine backing. The ever so sacred cost of auto fuel, rise, fall, or equilibrium? Economy, stable, growing, receding, or full on crash months ago? Then, consider Trump’s relationships abroad, foreign policy positive in hotspots or nuclear with China, Russia, Iran, and boots on the ground in Afghanistan.
Myopic vision burdened are Republican conservatives chained to moribund old dogmas,
New tricks for finding remedies to burgeoning problems threatening human existence by century’s end appear improbable. The GOP does not have eyes to see nor minds capable of comprehending what future life is coming with all out warming across the globe.
America will not be safe and immune from radical environmental changes. The gulf stream regulating weather patterns that determine atmospheric conditions like moisture and temperatures with each seasonal change had moved its usual pattern.
It brings heat further north out of Africa and swoops in predictably over the Pacific Ocean causing typhoons and hurricanes. Conservative folks have not been comfortable with risk taking or high stakes gambling. Doing nothing about the environment shared by all peoples amounts to high stakes gambling. Everyone’s chips are in whether by choice or not, while the world spins. What we in America contribute to saving the Earth is an investment in our children and grandchildren’s future survival, Knowing full well, the environment has not respect for political party affiliation, social position, and self important claims to power and authority, It had a humbling power no one should have to face.

    • Roy

That’s right. Punish the guilty. Round up the antifa and BLM leaders and lock them up in high security prisons. They have done a lot more than the 1/6 patriots. And wish Nancy Pelosi safety on her useless trip. Lol.

      • Ben

Gee, So you wanna lock up leaders of groups whose members run amok. Hmmm, I wonder what that means for the republican party leaders for the Trumplicants that stormed the capital. So far, we’ve only locked up the little people, the peons, the pawns, Or what Trump likes to call Cannon fodder

        • Herman

          Get over it asshole

          • Ben

Now that Trump is under criminal investigation, I think we will be getting over it soon.

And speaking of assholes, the 1/6-er convicted of terror will be sentenced today. Hope it’s a big one, and totally legal.

This is the guy whose kids turned him in. Doesn’t get better than that.

          • BEn

And the kid gets Dad seven years in prison.

Well deserved, minus time served, boo-ya!

Can’t wait for the sedition seven!

  5. Mike

Larry, Your comments on these hearings have been wrong from the start, and this one is no different. Your first piece said that nobody was paying attention to the televised version. Wrong. The most important person (at least as far as a third run by Trump is concerned) is definitely paying attention-that would be Rupert Murdoch the head of the very conservative Faux news and other printed news outlets. All of his news organizations have turned on Trump, writing editorials that tell the readers that Trump was wrong, and in the case of Faux news, not carrying his rallies, and instead playing up DeSantis. There is no question that Trump could not have been elected without the support of Faux back in 2016 and this change by Murdoch is likely the kiss of death for him. In what was your second article (I believe) regarding the hearings, you lambasted Cassidy Hutchinson, calling her a “liar”. Wrong again. While there were comments after that hearing by Tony Ornato (a secret service agent who joined the Trump administration-highly unprecedented) that her testimony quoting him regarding Trump’s ride back to the WH-there has been no further discussion from him, so we can assume that going under oath to dispute the testimony was not something he would be willing to do. And while Kinzinger (a staunch conservative) may be overstating the evidence, he is saying what those of us who are not partisan hacks already know-Trump did commit crimes, whether they can stand up in a court of law is questionable however. Of course hearings such as these that are focused on making a potential candidate unelectable are nothing new, or did you forget the Benghazi and email hearings regarding Hillary Clinton?

    • Burt

Don’t worry. Trump will pardon the patriots when he gets re-elected and back in the White House where he belongs. Joe Biden will be sundowning in a rest home And let’s hope Nancy has a safe trip. Lol

      • Ben

Yes Burp, Trump will run again. You should donate to him big-time so you can be sure that he will win. Matter fact, you can donate today even before he announces that he’s running. Just send your money to: Trump legal fund and 2024 election. I’m sure you’ll find your money put a great use.

  6. Frank stetson

What I find interesting is there are two Secret Service people that say they can shoot Hutchinson’s story all to hell, where are they?

Are they being blocked from the select committee?

Are they being blocked I’m going to the press?

Why are we not hearing from the media what’s up with this one?

What we have heard is that the SS watchdog, a Trump hire, called off any investigation of lost text messages. Yet another mystery, or is it? This may turn out to be yet another example of an Autocrat strong man gone wild as Trump replaces the head of the Secret Service, then replaces the SS watchdog with his own loyal subjects. Could the Secret Service have become the Trump SS? This may go well beyond the normal secret service code of ethics in support of the presidents office. We may have had a Trumpian police force and we didn’t even know it. And if that’s the case, why did they stop from going to the capital? Many questions unanswered here starting with where are those two guys Who say hutchinson is full of shit.

  7. Jim

I too have also that Bair has gone over to the dark side. I used to tape and watch his show every day now I do not.
He is over as far as I am concerned.
