
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">President Joe Biden on Monday signed an executive order reversing President Donald Trump’s 2019 ban against transgender individuals serving openly in the US military.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“The question of how to enable all qualified Americans to serve in the military is easily answered by recognizing our core values,” reads the order. “America is stronger, at home and around the world, when it is inclusive. The military is no exception.”</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to polls, up to 60% of American adults believe transgender individuals should be able to serve in the military; this includes military households.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“I truly believe…that if you’re fit and you’re qualified to serve and you can maintain the standards, you should be allowed to serve,” said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Austin who joined Biden at the signing ceremony. “And you can expect that I will support that throughout.”</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">When Trump&#8217;s ban went into effect, there were nearly 15,000 trans service members on active duty in the Reserves. </h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The ban allowed existing troops to continue serving, but blocked new recruits. Biden’s executive order prohibits any service member from being discharged or denied reenlistment on the basis of gender identity. It also directs the DHS to implement a review of military records for all service members affected by the ban.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“It is my highest goal to serve my country in the US military and I’ve fought this ban because I know that I am qualified to serve,” argues Nicolas Talbott, a trans individual who hopes to join the military. Talbott is a plaintiff in one of several lawsuits against the Trump Administration due to the ban. “I am thrilled and relieved that I and other transgender Americans can now be evaluated solely on our ability to meet military standards. I look forward to becoming the best service member I can be.”</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">President Trump first voiced his opposition to transgender people serving in the military in 2016. </h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Specifically, he cited the “tremendous medical costs&#8221; associated with this group. “Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail,” he wrote.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In America, “transitioning” is a very expensive process that most healthcare plans don&#8217;t automatically cover. The process can easily reach $100,000 and critics don’t want the military paying for something so controversial. From 2016 to 2019, the US military spent about $8 million on transgender care. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another key argument is mental stability: is anyone that desires a sex change stable enough for military operations? The answer is unclear.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Biden did not address either of the above concerns in his statement, which proves that he is simply pandering to the Left. Next, our new president is also going to reinstate a policy allowing transgender students to use whichever bathroom aligns with their chosen gender identity &#8211; a move guaranteed to ignite a firestorm among conservatives and parents. Biden also plans to add the option of “X” as a gender marker on federal IDs, such as passports.</p>
