
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A new lawsuit filed by Attorneys General Eric Schmitt (R-MO) and Jeff Landry (R-LA) accuses the Biden Administration of colluding with social media companies to suppress private speech under the guise of &#8216;fighting misinformation.&#8217;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These efforts extend far beyond the FBI&#8217;s quashing of the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020 (<a href="https://punchingbagpost.com/gop-senators-to-facebook-wtf-on-hunter-biden-fbi/">read more here</a>). </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to the 164-page filing, more ;than 50 White House officials from 13 agencies &#8220;threatened, cajoled, and colluded&#8221; with companies like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to suppress truthful information related to election integrity and the coronavirus pandemic (including the origin of the virus).</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Specific examples include:</strong></p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>The Hunter Biden laptop story (originally published by the<em> New York Post</em> in October 2020)</li><li>The theory that COVID-19 was leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China</li><li>The effectiveness of face coverings in limiting the spread of COVID-19 ;</li></ul>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The lawsuit lists several examples of White House officials threatening or pressuring social media companies into obeying their censorship demands including President Joe Biden&#8217;s July 16th 2021 accusation that social media platforms were &#8220;killing people&#8221; by allowing misinformation about COVID-19 to spread online. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Seven days later, the Department of Health and Human Services received word that Facebook&#8217;s parent company Meta had deleted 39 Profiles, Pages, Groups, and Instagram accounts linked to disinformation about COVID-19 vaccines. ;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As detailed in the lawsuit, federal officials worked directly with executives and employees of social media companies to police online content. For example, documents obtained by Schmitt and Landry show direct email exchanges between Dr. Anthony Fauci and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg regarding the dissemination of information related to COVID-19. ;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Though the Justice Department has failed to respond to the lawsuit, Meta has already disclosed contacts with 32 officials including people working at the White House, the US Election Assistance Commission, and the FDA. YouTube disclosed 11 contacts.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;We have already received a number of documents that clearly prove that the federal government has an incestuous relationship with social media companies and clearly coordinate to censor freedom of speech, but we&#8217;re not done,&#8221; said Landry, who compared the Biden Administration&#8217;s censorship efforts to those used by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Officials named in the suit include President Joe Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and <a href="https://punchingbagpost.com/gop-lawmakers-move-to-kill-disinformation-board/">Disinformation Governance Board</a> Director Nina Jankowicz.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;Freedom of speech is paramount to a healthy society and discourse, debate, and discussion have been the cornerstone of our country since the Founders codified that right in the <em>Bill of Rights</em>,&#8221; argues Schmitt. &#8220;Americans use social media platforms&#8230;to discuss topics like the efficacy of masks and the veracity of the lab-leak theory. In direct contravention to the <em>First Amendment </em>and freedom of speech, the Biden Administration has been engaged in a pernicious campaign to both pressure social media giants to censor and suppress speech and work directly with those platforms to achieve that censorship in a misguided and Orwellian campaign against &#8216;misinformation.'&#8221;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The two Attorneys General are backed by the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA), which joined the lawsuit representing a team of renowned ;epidemiologists. ;</p>
