Biden aids and abets Hamas

Yes, it is a strong headline. But Biden’s recent statements and threats against Israel cannot be objectively seen in any other way.

Following the attack on Israel by Hamas, President Biden got it right. He pledged both physical (military) AND moral support to the only democracy in the Middle East – and America’s closest ally. It was underscored and symbolized by Biden’s trip to Israel to literally embrace Prime Minister Netanyahu. Biden had declared that Israel had the unequivocal support of the United States in the war on Hamas. Biden declared that the United States would not tell Israel how to carry out its war.

It was not long, however, until Biden began to backtrack on his full-throated commitment to the Jewish State. He has now threatened to place conditions on U.S. military support and has done a 180 in the moral support for Israel. In fact, Biden had gradually re-aligned himself – and the United States – with the Hamas propaganda campaign. He even uses the 30,000 civilian deaths figure provided by Hamas – a figure widely disputed as not credible.

While Biden expresses his new policy in terms of the tragically high number of civilian deaths in the conflict, the dramatic change in Biden’s support for Israel was driven more by domestic politics and conditions on the battlefield.

The anti-Israel faction of the Democratic Party – with a significant element of antisemitism – rose in opposition to the Israeli war on Hamas. Putting aside the horrendous attack on Israel, a significant portion of Biden’s base in the Islamic Arab communities rose up against Israel – and threatened Biden’s reelection prospects.

The animosity toward Israel was not confined to the War. Grievances that have percolated for more than 75 years – since the creation of the Jewish State – rose to the surface. While the alleged headline issue was the deaths and injuries to civilians, a significant portion of the American protestors only support the terrorist belief that Israel has no right to exist.

Though some on the left have attempted to sanitize the slogan “from river to the sea,” it has become the mantra of those wishing to wipe the Jewish State off the map. In the extreme, it is a call for genocide against the Jewish people.

Two State Solution

The Biden administration has put the prospect of Middle East peace and security for Israel on the long hoped for “two-state solution” – the existence of a Palestinian state living peacefully next to Israel. That has not happened for one primary reason. The two-state solution relies on Palestinians (Hamas) to accept the legitimate existence of Israel. That has not happened – and there can be no two-state solution without that. The official policy of Hamas – and other terrorist groups – is the elimination of Israel and “death to Jews.” They make no secret of that ambition. As the late Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir wisely noted: “How do you negotiate with people who want to kill you.”

The prerequisite of a two-state solution had long been an obstacle to negotiated agreements between Israel and other Arab states. President Trump abandoned that obstacle and achieved the unprecedented Abraham Accords between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco.

Biden puts politics over principle

The only apparent reason for Biden to become so hostile to the Israeli war effort is because he fears losing a critical number of Arab and Islamic votes – especially in states such as Michigan and Minnesota. That is why he has shifted from unbridled support for Israel to casting his lot with the anti-Israel/Hamas propaganda machine.

Civilian deaths

It is tragically true that thousands of civilians have perished in the war – many of them children. While Biden expresses his outrage and frustration against Israel, he fails to remind people that NONE of those people – not Palestinians, Israelis, foreign aid works or children – would have died were it not for Hamas’ invasion and brutal massacre of innocent Israeli men, women and children.

Biden should be explaining why there are so many civilian deaths. That is because Gaza is a very densely overcrowded area – and Hamas militants occupy hospitals, schools and aid centers in order to use civilians as shields and as statistics for their mendacious propaganda campaign. Those acts are war crimes.

Biden and much of the American press foolishly and uncritically report Hamas’ claims. You will recall how Israel was accused of intentionally targeting a hospital, killing hundreds of “innocent civilians.” It was later learned that the hospital was hit by a Hamas rocket — and the death toll was closer to a dozen individuals.

In addition to the large compact population with Hamas military embedded in it, it is virtually impossible to differentiate between “innocent” civilians and those who serve as Hamas assets. According to polls and other published reports, 90 percent of the Palestinians in Gaza support Hamas – some spiritually and some actively. The line between an organized militant terrorist and a civilian terrorist is blurred. The hatred of Israel — and the desire to wipe it off the face of the earth — is rampant among the Gaza citizenry.

The fog of war

Tragedies – such as the deaths of the aid worker – are a sad consequence of war. It is often attributed to “the fog of war.” One need only recall how American forces mistakenly bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1999 during the Kosovo War – killing three Chinese journalists, including a husband and wife. During the American surrender in Afghanistan, American forces mistakenly targeted an aid vehicle – killing 10 people, including several children. Interestingly, Biden’s response to that mistake was far different than the outrage and frustration he expressed toward Israel – and particularly Netanyahu.

Biden’s meddling in the war

In addition to echoing the Hamas propaganda line, Biden and Democrats are meddling in Israeli internal affairs. Whether wittingly or unwittingly, they are aiding in Hamas propaganda effort – that wrongly accuses Israil of war crimes and genocide. Biden has demanded Israel carry out a ceasefire without connecting it to a release of all hostages – giving the impression that it is Netanyahu who is rejecting negotiations. In fact, it is Hamas who has reject several Israeli hostage exchange proposals.

Biden has had Vice President Harris to go the public with an unconditional ceasefire – even a permanent ceasefire. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is guilty of unprecedented interference in Israeli politics by essentially calling for the removal of Netanyahu – essentially a regime change.

Attacking Netanyahu at this point provides more fodder for the Hamas propaganda machine. We are actually making Netanyahu the bad guy over Israeli domestic politics while essentially ignoring how this war got started.

Biden has literally demanded that Israel not send ground forces into Rafah. Without that action, Israel cannot totally destroy Hamas.

Biden’s threats and demands

If there is any doubt that the Biden administration is no longer a friend of Israel, the latest demands should make that clear. Following a phone conversation with Netanyahu, the White House let it be known that Biden expressed his deep dissatisfaction with Israel’s conduct of the war.

The details represent yet another shift in Biden’s policy against Israel. The details were laid out in a speech by Secretary of State Antony Blinken celebrating the 75th anniversary of NATO. He said that Biden had demanded an “immediate ceasefire” without any noted conditions. Biden demanded that Israel must provide “concrete and measurable” actions on how they will provide protection for civilians and support aid and relief activities. Future aid to Israel would depend on it. And there still is the demand that Israel not enter Rafah.

In a clear indication that the Biden administration no longer sees the attack of October 7 as a primary consideration, Blinken said in the most severe manner that “there is no higher priority than protecting civilians.” The top priority for Biden is no longer destroying Hamas.

It is no coincidence that Biden’s Delaware home state senator, Chris Coons is now talking about legislation to limit aid to Israel — and the limited use of any military aid provided.

Despite all the obvious changes in Biden’s policy toward Israel, National Security Advisor John Kirby said the administration’s commitment to Israel was “unwavering.” When challenged by FOX News’ Peter Doocy to explain how the change in policy can be described as “unwavering” support, Kirby angrily shot back that both are possible at the same time. Obviously, that is NOT possible.

Summary

Biden still gives verbal assurances of the strong ties between the United States and Israel even as the relationship is being described as “strained” and “fractured” in the media. Biden is essentially calling for yet another strategic surrender – as if Afghanistan was not bad enough. It is ironic that Biden’s demands for an immediate ceasefire should come on the anniversary of that disastrous surrender in Afghanistan.

Biden’s current policies and threats embolden Israel’s enemies and enhance their credibility. Israel has no unwavering friend in the White House these days.

So, there ‘tis.
