Yesterday the House Select Committee on Benghazi published an 800 page report on the happenings in the Benghazi terrorist attack on September 11, 2012 and the Washington DC response to it.
While hundreds of news articles and perspectives will be written about this report, one particular fact, long speculated, is proven true:
The Obama Administration purposely lied about Benghazi to protect his bid for re-election in the 2012 Presidential race.
In this writer’s opinion this is the worst possible abuse of power, lying to the American people for no other reason than personal advancement. If the American people had known this incident was due to a planned terrorist attack rather than believing it was inspired by some insignificant video, Obama’s policies would have been discredited and it could have very well cost him his 2012 re-election.
The facts are these. From the White House:
Benjamin Rhodes (Deputy National Security Advisor), defining the goals of Ambassador Susan Rice’s appearances on Sunday news programs on Septemberr 14th, 2012 “To underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.” This was the lie.
In fact it was Rhodes who was tapped at the White House to reach out to Ambassador Rice on the Friday prior to the Sunday talk shows where she agreed to say the videos were the cause of the incident. The following December, Rice was forced to withdraw from her candidacy for Secretary of State because of the backlash from this lie. However after this died down, she was rewarded with her current position of National Security Advisor.
So to hammer this home, the message from Susan Rice was designed solely to convince the American public that Obama’s policies were working and his statements that Al Qaeda was on the run were true. She was trying to convince the American people the attack was a spontaneous event, the fault of this inflamatory video, and not the work of terrorists.
Barrack Obama was in a heated race with Mitt Romney, and terrorism was a major issue. At two months before the election, this issue could easily have shifted momentum to Romney. So the lie worked.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, not only knew the truth, but she lied to cover it up.
Two messages sent by Mrs. Clinton on September 11-12 2012 (before Rice and Rhodes made their public statements) were as follows:
To her daughter, on Sept 11: “Two of our officers were killed in Benghazi by an Al Queda-like (sic) group.”
She made a statement to the Egyption Prime Minister, summarized in the report as follows, “We know that they attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film. It was a planned attack – not a protest.”
Again, hammering this home, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her Department of State knew the truth, that Benghazi was a terrorist attack, and they knew it before the statements of Rhodes and Rice.
Hillary Clinton maintained the lie.
According to Charles Woods, father of Tyrone Woods in his diary entry of September 14, 2012, “I gave Hillary a hug and shook her hand, and she said we are going to have the filmmaker arrested who was responsible for the death of my son.”
Clinton knew. Clinton lied. During an American election, Hillary helped cover up the fact that Obama’s policies were a failure and that Obama’s claims that terrorism was under control were false. It helped him win the election.
The American people deserve better.
