I pose the headline question because have been listening to one Democrat after another – and every talking head on MS NOW – say that President Trump attacked Iran without a plan or a reason. They say the current situation it his fault for tearing up President Obama’s deal that would have prevented Iran from having nuclear weapons for ten years. (Yeah, I know that Democrats keep saying the deal prevented Iran from ever getting nuclear weapons, but that is … a bald-faced lie.)

The Legality

Democrats say that Trump’s action is illegal – that he had to get the approval of Congress. Not so. First of all, it is the Supreme Court that determines the legality of presidential actions — not a bunch partisan political hacks. I have not yet seen any Democrat running to the Supreme Court. Methinks, they know that Trump currently has the power under the War Powers Act and they would lose. Democrats are pushing for passage of a War Powers Resolution in an attempt to stop or restrain Trump. Hmmm. Would they be doing that if they really thought his actions were already illegal? Regardless, it is not likely to pass Congress – and if it did, Trump would simply veto it. It is an exercise in futility – the kind of meaningless theatrics Democrats love.

The issue of legality brings up another issue – one not raised by the press, unfortunately. Since many Democrats claim both the actions in Venezuela and now those in Iran are illegal actions, I would ask them if they believe Trump is a war criminal — and if they believe that the military – from generals to troops on the frontline – should disobey Trump’s orders. How would Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and the others who appeared on those videos, respond?

Briefing Congress

Democrats complain that Trump failed to inform Congress and the American people what is on his him mind. They are bewildered as to why Trump chose this moment to launch the most powerful military in the world. They said that they were not consulted or advised.

Trump did brief Congress of his plan to launch the attack several hours before he pulled the trigger. The last-minute timing was likely because if he had laid out specific plans to them any earlier, you can rest assured that some Democrat would have telegraphed the plan to Tehran as soon as he or she could call a friendly reporter (probably at MS NOW).

The Plan

The claim that Trump did not have a well-considered plan is bullstuff. The Trump administration spent weeks and months drafting initial and contingency plans with staff and military advisors. How do those Democrats think all those military assets were moved like chess pieces into the region? By coincidence? What about the coordination with Israel? Was the mutual precision-timed attack another coincidence? What about all that impressive pre-attack intelligence? Was the killing of the Supreme Leader – and 40 other top officials – a lucky shot in the dark? The initial hours of the attack were executed with strategic brilliance. How could that happen without a plan? It is obvious to anyone with an IQ higher than the winning U.S. Olympic hockey score that there was a LOT of planning for weeks and months – plans that were extremely well conceived and well executed.

Informing the Public

And what about that nonsense that Trump had not told we the people his plans and his reasons. Were Democrat officials on some mental vacation since the New Year? Trump has issued public statements regarding actions against Iran if they failed to comply with basic demands – no nukes ever and an end to sponsoring terrorism. They refused to accept Trump’s demands – the same demands they ignored through decades of fruitless negotiation with a succession of American presidents.

Trump repeatedly said he would take military action if Iran refused to comply – and he did not rule out regime change. He told the Iranian people that help was on the way. What else did we need to know? You can hardly expect him to give the public specifics of when, where and how. If any Democrats did not know this was coming, they are stone-brained stupid.

The Reasons

Let us first deal with the reasons.

Among the reasons were stopping Iran’s continuing work on nuclear weapon technology and long-range missiles capable of striking the United States. Yes, Trump may have exaggerated the timing a bit (he is prone to hyperbole), but he was not wrong on the basic facts. Iran had not given up its ambitions to become a nuclear power – and they hostility to the United States has never abated.

Another reason was retribution for the millions of people – and hundreds of thousands of Americans – the regime killed and wounded across the globe over more than 40 years. Then there is Iran’s policy of hostage taking. Justice and accountability are very good reasons for the attack.

Another reason was consistent with America’s role in spreading democracy. Iran has a population that detests their oppressive leadership — which has murdered hundreds of thousands – if not millions — of its own people.

And yet Another reason was to stop Iran’s continuing to spread deadly Jihadist terrorism across the globe – with the primary enemies being Israel, the United States, the world democracies and any person or nation that are considered to be infidels (or kuffār) in the eyes of Iran’s Supreme Leader.

It is not as if Tehran had stopped the bad behavior. “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” were matters of policy to this day. They sponsored the October 7 massacre in Israel. They planned to assassinate Adel alâJubeir, the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States with a bomb in Washington, D.C. restaurants. (The perpetrators snuck over the American border under President Biden’s open borders policy. There is still a possibility of Iranian sleeper cells in the United States. Thanks, Joe). The regime in Tehran was exporting terrorism and slaughtering its own people even as the negotiations dragged on.

The option of regime change was always on the table. Trump could not, for obvious reasons (obvious to everyone except those on the never-Trump left) state that possibility publicly. But even I got the hint and wrote about it in a previous commentary. (Imagine that. I could read between the lines and deduce it as a possibility, and Democrats could not even read the writing on the wall.)

And then there is the oil. The Trump administration has been strategically interdicting the flow of oil to Cuba and China (a good thing). Cuba is on the ropes. That was one of the objectives for taking out Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro. (Other objectives included the removal of a murderous dictator who was an ally of Russia and China; and the liberation of the Venezuelan people.)

Democrats claim that Trump cannot keep his objective in mind. They accuse him of saying different things at different times. That is because ALL the aforementioned objectives stated by Trump are valid individually and collectively. There is no rule in war that you are only allowed to achieve one objective. The whiny Democrats appear to be incapable of complex thinking. For them, there is only one objective … Trump.

Why Now?

In questioning the timing of the attack, Democrat reach the nadir of stupidity. They say that negotiations were moving in the right direction. Uh huh! They have been “moving in the right direction” according to those on the left for 45 years – 45 years of bloodshed and global instability as those on the left kept negotiating … and negotiating … and negotiating. And Iran kept bombing … and killing … and taking hostages … and funding attacks on Israel and America … and moving to build nuclear weapons … and destabilizing the region.

The “enough is enough” moment for America was long overdue. Late, but better than a future with the most hated regime in the world — led by a murderous lunatic in the tradition of Adolf Hitler — continuing to disrupt and kill by the carload.

When Democrats rhetorically ask, “Why now?”, you know that are not paying attention or just peddling bogus political narratives. I have heard Trump and others repeatedly answer the “why now” question. Negotiations were going nowhere, as usual. The Iranians were playing their long-standing delay game. And perhaps more importantly, Iran is weaker today than at any time since the 1979 revolution. It seems Democrats would rather diddle and face the inevitable after Iran has nuclear weapons.

What about the Future?

No one has a crystal ball. Exactly how it will all play out is unknown. But I believe that the team in the White House has plans for a number of contingencies. Just because Democrats and the left-leaning media do not know something, does not mean that the folks in the White House do not have plans for future contingencies. The only thing we can say is that so far, things have gone very well – one might say “according to plan”.

What is With Those Democrats.

What is with all the gaslighting, the whining, the fearmongering and the baseless criticism? Democrats in and out of office are parroting Tehran propaganda – literally giving aid and comfort to the enemy. They said that America “negotiated in bad faith.” Former CIA Director John Brennan even accused the Trump administration of “duping” the Iranians. They say the attack was “reckless and “unnecessary”. They say that this was a “war of choice” – Trump’s war. They said that Iran “posed no imminent threat to the United States”. (That one is a doozy. Iran has been an imminent threat to the United States since the 1979 Islamic revolution. And there is a long trail of American blood to prove it.) That same language used by Tehran, China, Russia. In their irrational hatred of Trump, Democrats make common cause with America’s mortal enemies. As I said in a previous commentary, these Democrats are reprising the role of Tokyo Rose, the voice of anti-American propaganda in World War II.

Of course, there are Democrats who seem intelligent and rational. They are personified by the likes of Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman. He does not allow Trump Derangement Syndrome to deactivate his brain and twist his judgment. He is not alone, but it seems the partisan zombies in the Democratic Party hold the upper hand. And the left-wing media folks? They lost all journalistic integrity when Trump won in 2016.

We should all be able to agree that stopping Iran’s nuclear program, bringing justice and accountability to the past carnage, stopping future carnage, liberating the Iranian people, redirecting the flow of oil in America’s favor and ridding the planet of one of its worst despots are all good things … period. Trump deserves credit and the world’s thanks. But if Democrats want to stand with America’s mortal enemies, so be it. But we should keep their names in mind on Election Day.

So, there ‘tis.

Are Democrats that Stupid or Just Gas Lighting the Public?
