Extreme left-wing, “social democrat” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has flippantly accused Israel of “genocide.”
Once again, ignoring the horrific implications of the racially charged word, AOC, in a recent speech on the House Floor, said, “If you want to know what an unfolding genocide looks like, open your eyes. “It looks like the forced famine of 1.1 million innocents. It looks like thousands of children eating grass as their bodies consume themselves, while trucks of food are slowed and halted just miles away.”
The de facto leader of the borderline antisemitic “Squad” then pointed to warnings of Gaza’s imminent famine amid several unconfirmed reports that Israeli forces have fired on people waiting for aid.
“A famine … is being intentionally precipitated through the blocking of food and global humanitarian assistance by leaders in the Israeli government,” she said. “This is a mass starvation of people, engineered and orchestrated.”
She added that President Joe Biden should suspend the transfer of U.S. weapons to the Israeli government, saying that “honoring our alliances does not mean facilitating mass killing.”
AOC has been among the most vocal critics of Israel, putting her at sharp odds with the vast majority of her own party and its leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn).
In her remarks, AOC made no mention of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which left 1,200 dead, nor the dozens of Israeli and American hostages still being held prisoner by the terror group.
The speech represents an escalation in the language AOC has employed to describe the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Her flippant use of the word “genocide” suggests Ocasio-Cortez has conceded to demands from those who have demanded more vocal condemnation of the Jewish state.
