An Interview with Kevin McCarthy

Kevin McCarthy appeared Tuesday on The Sean Hannity Show and surprised the world when he said that John Boehner – the man he intends to replace – deserves a B minus for his efforts as House Speaker.

The interview opened up with a poll showing that over 50% of GOP voters feel betrayed by Boehner’s decision to step down. McCarthy is one of them.

“I think John Boehner deserves a B minus,” said Kevin McCarthy, the California Representative predicted to become the next House Speaker.

“Aw, come on,” responded Fox News host Sean Hannity.

“Now look,” said McCarthy, “you may disagree with me – he won a majority, we’ve got the highest margin we ever had before, we lowered the deficit…but you know what? There is a lot more.”

McCarthy explained that there were over 300 bills passed by the House this year that have not moved through the Senate.

“The Senate can’t change a nuclear option to protect a nuclear-free world?” he asked, referring to the failure of Senate Republicans to stop the filibuster rule in an attempt to defeat the nuclear deal with Iran.

McCarthy has already proposed a reconciliation bill designed to dismantle Obamacare. The bill will need only 51 votes to pass through the Senate. It will certainly be vetoed, however, when it reaches the President’s desk. Although McCarthy does aim to defund Planned Parenthood, Obamacare, and executive amnesty, he did not say whether he would continue to fight if the effort would lead to a government shutdown.

As the interview progressed, McCarthy used the Benghazi Committee’s stab at Hillary’s popularity as an example regarding the type of leader he would be:

“What you’re going to see is a conservative speaker, that takes a conservative Congress, that puts a strategy to fight and win. And let me give you one example. Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee. A select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known that any of that had happened had we not fought to make that happen.”
