After CBP Agent Is Shot By Criminal Migrants, Trump Promises to “Flood” NYC with ICE Agents

&NewLine;<p>Flanked by the head of Homeland Security&comma; Kristi Noem&comma; and border czar Tom Homan&comma; President Trump says he will pour ICE agents into sanctuary cities after the shooting of a Customs and Border Protection agent in New York City&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The President said he’s fed up with the city’s sanctuary laws and will now &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;flood” the area with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to arrest people wherever they find them&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The horrific shooting – by an illegal with a long criminal record &&num;8211&semi; unfolded at 11&colon;51 p&period;m&period; Saturday&comma; July 19&comma; in Fort Washington Park in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper Manhattan&comma; according to the New York Police Department&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Video of the incident released by the Department of Homeland Security shows two men approach the 42-year-old officer on a moped&comma; with a female companion pulling out a gun&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;The officer realized that he was being robbed and drew his service weapon in defense&comma;&&num;8221&semi; said New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The officer&comma; who was shot in the face and arm just before midnight on Saturday&comma; remained hospitalized and is expected to survive after exchanging gunfire with an undocumented migrant with a lengthy criminal record and outstanding arrest warrants&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The suspected gunman&comma; 21-year-old Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez&comma; an undocumented migrant from the Dominican Republic&comma; was also shot in the incident and detained after he went to an area hospital for medical treatment&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The second migrant criminal involved in the attempted robbery&comma; Christhian Aybar-Berroa&comma; 22&comma; was nabbed by ICE agents Monday following the arrest of Nunez&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Nunez is accused of shooting the 42-year-old officer while Aybar-Berroa allegedly helped with the robbery&comma; officials said&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;It’s a case that we will continue to work — that he was a part of this robbery on Saturday night — and hopefully he will face consequences for being a part of that&comma;” said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem during a fiery news conference at Harlem Hospital&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>A witness of the attack stated that she and the victim were &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;sitting on the rocks by the water when two subjects on a scooter drove up to them&comma; dismounted the scooter&comma; and approached them with a firearm drawn&period; The off-duty CBP officer responded by withdrawing his own firearm in self-defense&period; The CBP officer was shot in his right arm and left cheek&period; Thankfully&comma; the officer is in stable condition at the hospital&comma; Homeland Security said&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Tom Homan said he&&num;8217&semi;s especially angry with the City Council and that he is no longer going to play nice with the mayor&comma; or hope he can convince the City Council or the courts to let ICE agents operate on Rikers Island&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;Sanctuary cities get exactly what they don&&num;8217&semi;t want &&num;8212&semi; more agents in the community and more agents in the worksite&period; If we can&&num;8217&semi;t arrest that bad guy in the safety and security of county jail&comma; we&&num;8217&semi;ll arrest him in the community&comma;&&num;8221&semi; Homan said&comma; &&num;8220&semi;and when we arrest him in the community&comma; if he&&num;8217&semi;s with others that are in the country illegally&comma; they&&num;8217&semi;re coming&comma; too&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p><strong>Lengthy Criminal Records<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Both of the suspects have extensive criminal records&comma; including violent offences&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Aybar Berroa &&num;8220&semi;illegally entered the United States on June 19&comma; 2022&comma; and was released into the country on interim parole pending his immigration hearing&comma;&&num;8221&semi; according to the Department of Homeland Security&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>He then allegedly committed a litany of crimes in New York City&comma; including arrests for 2nd degree reckless endangerment in May 2023 and 4th degree felony grand larceny and petit larceny in March and April 2024&comma; officials said&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>&&num;8220&semi;On June 12&comma; 2025&comma; Berroa pled guilty to petit larceny at the Bronx County Supreme Court&period; This plea was made in consolidation of all his previous arrests&comma; and he was conditionally discharged and allowed to roam the streets of NYC&comma;&&num;8221&semi; it also said&period; &&num;8220&semi;A judge ordered Berroa a final order of removal on January 3&comma; 2023&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>Nunez was arrested eight times between March and April 2024 for grand larcenies&period; He&&num;8217&semi;s also a suspect in at least four additional cases&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p>The pair is now expected to face federal charges in connection with the shooting&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
