A House Divided: AOC Accuses Nancy Pelosi of Being Racist

The friction between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) hit a high point Wednesday when AOC accused the House Speaker of “singling out” women of color in the House.

“The persistent singling out…it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful,” AOC told reporters.

The insult came after the House passed a border funding bill opposed by AOC and fellow progressives Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA). AOC and her colleagues were the only Democrats to vote against the original version of the bill.

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world, but they didn’t have any following,” said Pelosi. “They’re four people, and that’s how many votes they got.”

AOC shot back on Twitter:  “That public ‘whatever’ is called public sentiment…And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country.”

AOC’s message was re-tweeted by Rep. Omar, who suggested Pelosi was “salty” because progressives were the ones now wielding the power to shift public sentiment.

Behind closed doors, Pelosi responded to the back-and-forth on Twitter by encouraging her caucus to talk to her in person if they have a complaint. “But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just okay.”

Her warning prompted further criticism from AOC, who accused Pelosi of living in the past: “I find it strange when members act as though social media isn’t important,” tweeted AOC, using emojis to accuse Democrats like Pelosi of ‘setting millions of dollars on fire to run TV ads.’

“I haven’t dialed for dollars once this year and have more time to do my job.”

The Senate proposed a new border funding bill after rejecting the House version. Pelosi agreed to support it in the interest of helping migrant children, but House Democrats overwhelmingly voted against it.

Editor’s note:  This shows the versatility of the race card. ANY white person can be painted with it in short term and very effectively.  It doesn’t matter if you are Nancy Pelosi, the standard bearer for progressive dogma for more than 30 years.
