Full Circle – Obama Admin Pushed the Steele Dossier to the FBI

A new book released Tuesday claims an Obama official is responsible for connecting the FBI with Christopher Steele and says the allegations which led to the wiretap on Carter page came from “pillow talk” with the lover of a Kremlin official. 

Russian Roulette by Michael Isikoff and David Corn points specifically to Obama-era State Department official Victoria Nuland for connecting the FBI with Christopher Steele – the former British spy who compiled the now-infamous Trump dossier.

Steele’s 35-page dossier contained outrageous criminal charges against President Trump and members of his campaign team and spoke of an “extensive conspiracy” between the campaign and the Kremlin. 

The dossier was brought to the attention of the State Department in July 2016. According to Ms. Nuland, it was handed to the FBI because it was not in the State Department’s purview. 

“This needs to go to the FBI, if there is any concern here that one candidate or the election as a whole might be influenced by the Russian Federation. That’s something for the FBI to investigate,” she told CBS News. “Frankly, if every member of the [Trump] campaign who the Russians tried to approach and tried to influence had gone to the FBI as well in real time, we might not be in the mess we’re in today,” she added.

• The Obama Administration took the fake report and sold it to the FBI

Russian Roulette also explains how Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS facilitated a meeting between Steele and FBI agent Michael Gaeta.

“There were few hoops Gaeta had to jump through. He was assigned to the US embassy in Rome. The FBI checked with Victoria Nuland’s office at the State Department…Nuland, having found Steele’s reports on Ukraine to have been generally credible, gave the green light.”

Steele later met with Obama State Department official Jonathan Winer, who helped arrange a meeting between Steele and Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal. Ms. Nuland, who at the time served as assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, informed then-Secretary John Kerry about the meeting. 

Last Monday, House Intelligence Committee Republicans said their 14-month investigation found no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. 

Meanwhile, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Judiciary Committee are currently investigating how Obama officials promoted the Steele dossier.
