Trump Promises to Clean up Obama's Mess with Israel Post U.N. Vote

President-elect Donald Trump was quick to call out his predecessor President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry for their disrespectful treatment of Israel.

Trump told reporters Wednesday that he is “very, very strong on Israel” after the Obama administration decided last week to not veto a U.N. resolution that condemned Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory as a violation of international law.

Instead of having Israel’s back as an ally, the U.S. government did not use its veto power.

Not to mention, Kerry has had some harsh criticism for the country.

Kerry condemned Israel’s recent settlement activities and has described Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government as “the most right-wing in Israeli history, with an agenda driven by its most extreme elements.”

Following the Obama administration’s lack of support for Israel, Trump made it clear that he was more than disappointed.

“If you look at what’s happened, they are up for 20 reprimands and other nations that are horrible places that treat people horribly,” said Trump about the recent U.N. actions. “There is something going on — and I think it is very unfair to Israel.”

Trump shared similar sentiments on Twitter.

“We cannot continue to let Israel be treated with such total disdain and disrespect,” said Trump on Twitter. “They used to have a great friend in the U.S., but not anymore.”

Other political leaders also condemned Obama’s move, which has caused Israel PM Netanyahu to cut ties with 12 countries, including Britain, Russia, France, Japan, China, Angola, Ukraine, Uruguay, Egypt, Senegal, Spain, and New Zealand.

“Why are they taking steps to isolate and then kill a democracy and an ally?” tweeted the Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Monday. “President-elect Trump must prepare a comprehensive offensive…to undo the damage to Israel the Obama team is inflicting.”

Trump made it clear that change will come January 20th and encouraged Israel to “stay strong.”

“The beginning of the end was the horrible Iran deal, and now this (U.N.)! Stay strong Israel, January 20th is fast approaching!” tweeted Trump.

PM Netanyahu believes that not only did Obama not veto the vote, but that he was responsible for it.

“We have no doubt that the Obama Administration initiated it, stood behind it, coordinated on the wording, and demanded that it be passed,” said Netanyahu

After Trump’s supportive words, Netanyahu thanked him on Twitter.

“President-elect Trump, thank you for your warm friendship and your clear-cut support for Israel!” he tweeted with emoji images of the U.S. and Israeli flags.

Author’s note: January 20th can’t come soon enough. This recent mistake has caused the U.S. to lose a valuable ally. Luckily, Trump has been called a “friend” by Netanyahu so he should be able to get us out of this mess fairly quickly.
