Senate Will Not Vote on Obama's Justice Nomination
The president of Concerned Women For America, Penny Nance, recently said that conservatives face an incredibly important battle in opposing Merrick Garland, the liberal Supreme Court pick made by Obama.
“This is a very important moment in the republic. This is why the people gave the Senate back to the Republicans. This is a check and balance in a president who’s out of control,” Nance said.
Nance believes that the inclusion of Garland will threaten the preservation of the Second Amendment and traditional marriage because of his extremely liberal views.
The Democratic party has already begun to place pressure on both Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator Chuck Grassley to confirm Obama’s choice. Despite this pressure, McConnell, the Senate Republican Majority Leader, told Obama that there will not be a vote held.
In his Senate floor speech, McConnell said, “It seems clear that President Obama made this nomination not with the intent of seeing the nominee confirmed, but in order to politicize it for the purposes of the election.”
“Instead of spending more time debating an issue where we can’t agree, let’s keep working to address the issues where we can,” he said, asking Obama to let the American people decide who the nominee should be.
When McConnell reached out to Garland via phone, he reiterated that the Senate would not discuss the matter until the next President is in office and given a nomination.
One organization that is pushing for Garland to be included on the Supreme Court is Planned Parenthood, who have already began to lobby the Senate to hold a vote. Planned Parenthood would benefit greatly by Garland replacing the conservative, pro-life Justice Antonin Scalia.
