Will Trump Be A No-Show At Tonight's Debate?
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has threatened to skip Thursday’s debate despite his son, Eric Trump, saying his father will most likely be there.
The first presidential debate sparked a feud between Trump and Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, and Trump has announced his boycott of the next event as a result of Kelly being included as a moderator.
“I think [Kelly is] not a professional. I don’t think she’s a very talented person. I don’t think she is a good reporter. I think they could do a lot better than that,” Trump said.
Trump accused Fox News CEO Roger Ailes of playing games with him, telling an Iowa crowd that he will most likely not attend the debate. After he made these remarks, his campaign manager quickly confirmed the candidate will skip the event.
Sources tell CNN that Trump may plan on hosting his own event at the same time as the event and ask competitive networks to air his as a way to diminish the ratings of the Fox News debate.
Fox News is not taking the bait to retaliate against Kelly on Trump’s behalf. The network released a statement yesterday saying, “Sooner or later Donald Trump, even if he’s president, is going to have to learn that he doesn’t get to pick the journalists—we’re very surprised he’s willing to show that much fear about being questioned by Megyn Kelly.”
Despite his claims, Trump has yet to officially tell the Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus of his decision to boycott the debate.
