Time to Worry: France thinks we're weak
Iran’s Supreme leader Ali Khamenei called for “Death to America” on Saturday, a day after US Secretary of State John Kerry claimed substantial progress toward an accord with Iran. Khamenei, speaking before a massive crowd in Tehran, was cheered for claiming “Iran would never capitulate to Western demands.” Still the Obama administration remains, at least openly, confident that a deal will be struck by March 31st. However, given this recent hyperbolic rhetoric, the French believe that America needs to be stronger during these Iranian negotiations.
France believes that America is rushing into a nuclear deal with Iran, allowing the Islamic Republic to escape economic sanctions before any progress towards ending their nuclear program is made. The immediate lift of sanctions fails to incentivize consistent progress towards conforming to the world community’s expectations. On Twitter on Friday, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius called talk about needing a deal by March 31 a “bad tactic” that is “counterproductive and dangerous.”
As France scoffs at the Obama administration’s “weakness in Iran,” Iran is advancing their agenda of spreading influence throughout the Middle East. In both Iraq and Yemen reports have stated that Iranian funded Shiite militias are attacking Sunni civilians. The Obama administration is yet to comment on the Iranian proxy wars.
