Joe Biden Is Now Officially the Least Popular President in the Last 70 Years
In pro sports and politics, numbers matter, and Biden is now the least popular president in the last 70 years, falling below Jimmy Carter and even Richard Nixon!
According to a new Gallup Poll, Biden, 81, notched a dismal 38.7% job approval rating for the first quarter of 2024, three points lower than that of the one-term George H.W. Bush at the same point in his presidency.
“With about six months remaining before Election Day, Biden stands in a weaker position than any prior incumbent,” the pollsters concluded.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump, who is vying with Biden for a second White House term, had a 46.8% approval rating at this point in his presidency.
Even Nixon and Carter had higher ratings than Biden, with 53.7% and 47.7%, respectively, and Eisenhower had the highest rating at 73.2%, according to the poll.
The results of Gallup’s presidential approval polls, which the organization has compiled since the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower began in 1952, have been strongly predictive of re-election success.
Historically, every incumbent in the past seven decades with an approval rating above 50% has won a second term. Barack Obama was the only one to topple the trend: his 2012 victory came despite a middling 46% approval six months ahead of that year’s general election.
However, despite his former boss bucking the trend, no first-term president in Gallup’s history has returned to the White House with approval numbers as low as Biden’s — whose results this quarter ranked among the worst of the post-World War II era in the bottom 12% of all presidential quarters going back to 1945.
Also the dumbest. But what the heck? Frank loves him
Dan, Sorry, I don’t really love any politician, although I do have a growing admiration for some like Mayor Pete, Katie Porter, and Gavin Newsom, although jury still out on Gavin — a little slick for me. Jamie Raskin on Constitutional Issues only, likewise for Daniel Goldman, this guy is really sharp. Bernie Thompson did a nice job, good committeeman, Mickie Sherril is up and comer, jury’s out still. Frankly it’s a short list and there are some governors like Beshar from Kentucky seems amazing he can take that State. There’s more govs too. It’s a pretty short list, but no grey hair…. I had hoped Biden would pull a Washington with one-n-done mentoring one of my favs to the top. Power corrupts, what can I say.
Sorry, I did not respond faster; Horist convinced me no one reads me, so…. Actually, I was playing the market early Friday, having decided to day trade on a hunch it would be a banner day for jobs and the market. Funny though, as I was driving home from the grocery, it’s fast, I still do curbside, and I noticed gas at $3.66 and thought, oh fuck, Biden’s in trouble…. Then, on break from fevered in and outs on the market, I saw this poll story. Then I saw the jobs report, cooling off, wages not up, unemployment a tad, but not enough to move the Fed, but sure moved the market and I was happy again making my 10% in a day. Sad though that I did not go big. Didn’t trust my hunch, played it low risk. Paid off this year’s stone crab annual dinner with our new Florida Cracker. No, not Horist, but some machine some ingenious Floridian made so I can eat sustainable crabs —- they only take the claw and put the rest back —- that’s so cool. It really works but now I have to figure where to put it until next year or until I start a family lobster fest. I grew up on blue crab fresh from the bay, but they are a little tough to crack at my age.
So, inflation up, rest of economy OK, numbers still good as the best economy in the world right now.
And the job approval polls. As I said Spring will tell the tale and time is running out, but not gone, for Mr. Biden. There is no way to say this poll is good news. The only shining light is Obama pulled it off and he had a slow recovery and Benghazi, so it can be done. But time is running out. Biden’s trickle up is not fast enough. Infrastructure is not fast enough. The IRA payoff is invisible still. That’s the problem with building up from the bottom. Takes time. But we’ve seen what Trumpian free money does too. It’s fast, I call it economic heroin. And a lot a people love their free money. Especially Republicans. Doubt me? See who ran up the deficits worse. It’s Republicans. A lot is due to having tax cuts they can’t pay for so they run a tab to give you free money while pretending they cut costs and brought in more revenues. They don’t, they lie, and Trump ran YUGE deficits even before he blew the roof off with covid. Biden has done better, but face it, most don’t care. Just want more free money from Trump.
Back to the story. The poll is restricted to 13th Q; 3 out of 4 winners of these lows didn’t get re-elected, Obama did. For all-time lows Biden is at the bottom 10% mark with notable folks like Reagan below him for all time lows. And Reagan got elected and his son Ron said his Alzheimer’s kicked in during office. There’s hope.
Also, Spring was late, cool and wet in the NE. But now we have two weeks of Spring, Republican-supported global warming is creating construction opportunities across the Red States in the Midwest and South, so Biden can still get an economic bump —- but it’s a mixed opportunity at best, no clear direction, and I wouldn’t be surprised if recession hit.
I am seeing more and more sales taking a bite out of inflation but not a feeding frenzy yet. IMO.
The best hope that Biden has is Trump. Reuters has consistently polled that extremism as a top issue for voters. Not sure Gallup looks at that. If true and valid, Trump can scare the fuck out of people inciting them to vote Biden. He is a bad man and his own worst enemy. Frankly, that may be Biden’s best hope. He needs to debate and I think a tie will go to the incumbent so IMO he does not even need the kill shot. Just to hold his own, not fall down, and keep his cool while flipping Don out. All possible, easily. Ain’t gonna change Trumplicants, but its Indy’s and young progressives that are at play.
But this poll is bad, no way to sugar coat that, no speech will correct it, and no amount of explaining will help.
I know how those crabs taste! I used to go to a famous crab shack called Jimmy’s! If you want sustainable crabs, join the Navy and let them do your wash buddy!!!
Biden’s biggest problem right now appears to be young voter ages 18 to 30. This is where he is the lowest. I think part of his problem is messaging, as in not getting it out. Also the Hamas-Israeli war where this generation wants to be the new flower children. With Indies his major problem is economy and overall perceived lack of performance where once again, he needs to talk to a government that did not shut down, a government that performs for all, and can perform effectively and cost-wise efficiently and still get the job done. He needs to message that our relationship with traditional allies has been strengthened and we do not abandon our allies for the sake of a single transaction. For older Indies he needs to come out and say no SSA cuts and no gutting of benefits under his administration. On border, he needs to show tough and orderly.
On Trump, Dems need to show a few pics of Trump on the golf course with his soiled white pants where the diaper did not hold it all. He needs to make commercials of Trump gaffs. He needs to replay that pussy petting tape showing disrespect for women has not changed based on the hush money / election interference trial. He needs to publicize the Republican proposed cuts to Social Security Benefits for the younger generation when they become of age. He needs to show diabetics who lowered their insulin costs against GOP objections. He needs to keep hitting the abortion issue with real cases that are documented. He needs to play clips of Trump calling our military deceased to be losers and POWs like McCain losers while he got four deferments. He needs to show how Trump cannot be trusted and did cover up and hide info from the voting public in 2016. He needs to send out invite commercials to Nikki Haley voter and remind them that Trump does not want them and how they can find a place in his administration. He needs to show how Trump plans to bypass congress if GOP does not run the house and will do everything through EO’s and decrees like the true authoritarian that he is. He needs to expose Trumps criminality. He needs to expose how Trump is fleecing retail investors who bought his Truth Social merger stock. And he needs to get hopped up on his AZ medication and debate Trump in a setting that is controlled such as maybe Zoom where the moderator can shut Trump off after his time, and not show all of Trumps antics. Biden needs to show Trump for who he really is.
What I do not understand is why he is not already starting to do this? It shows once again that he is slow at getting to the party! This is becoming an increasingly violent world and we Indies need to see a commander in chief that can get to the fight on time and kick ass.
I am an Indy. IF he let me run his campaign, I would show him how to rip Trumps vocal chords through his asshole while at the same time defecating down Trumps windpipe!
And one last thing. If this SCOTUS gives Trump his immunity wish, Biden needs to show Indies that a vote for him will be a vote against POTUS’es having immunity for non-job related criminal acts and how the Indy vote will mater for women and mater for holding presidents accountable in the future. There are several SCOTUS decisions we do not like and can be reversed if Biden can nominate a judge or two and revisit the cases.
Agree with summary. “Also the Hamas-Israeli war where this generation wants to be the new flower children.” is right, but many of these kids, and others, have been protesting Israeli apartheid for years. The war brought it to sharp relief and while I don’t agree with their timing, I understand.
I do think the more Trump is brought out of the legal spotlight and into the election spotlight, extremism will have more bearing, as the Reuters polls show. As to the debate, the campaign mud, if you fight with a pig, you both come out dirty. He’s got time. Let Trump wallow in his own morass and work to get him back on the news. Many folks are burned out on Trump and need to be refreshed with 2024 Trump who is about 1.6.2021 years away from 2016 Trump, who was crazy enough, but new he’s just totally bonkers.
Not worried about the debate, sleepy Joe tends to wake up for these events and do better than anticipated.
Jesus hates you with perfect hate Joe Biden.
How the hell do you know what Jesus “hates”? If you’d ever read the New Testament, you’d know that Jesus forgives everything. You don’t know Jesus and where you are Jesus is not.
How do you have the temerity to lie like this? Biden has some challenges but even now he’s at a 48% approval rating. AS PRESIDENT, Donald Trump began his tenure at 38% approval and never raised above 42% approval in four years. Donald Trump is absolutely and consistently the least popular president in modern history. In fact, in the history of the United States ONLY Andrew Johnson, the president who took office after the assassination of President Lincoln and the first president to be impeached by the House of Representatives, and James Buchanan, the 15th president, are historically considered less popular and less competent in the roles as leaders than the twice impeached, Donald Trump.
Trump’s own, hand chosen, Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, said that under Trump the United States was without mature leadership. Trump’s chosen Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, the former Chief Executive of Exxon Mobile, called Trump a “fucking moron,” stated he was undisciplined, unable to read briefing reports, and uninterested in the details of his job as President. While Trump’s hand picked National Security Advisor, John Bolton, said he didn’t think Trump was competent to be president and that the dictators he enjoyed playing around with like Vladimir Putin, were “playing Trump like a fiddle.” Bolton’s words, not mine. John Kelly, Trump’s Chief of Staff, says that Trump, “has no idea what America stands for,” while William Barr, Trump’s personally chosen Attorney General says, Trump “will always put his own interest and gratifying his own ego, above everything else.”
I am not surprised that Donald Trump would run again for president because his ego is such that he can’t believe a majority of Americans really don’t want him for president despite the fact that he was consistently unpopular when he held the office. What does surprise me is that the GOP would again run such a total failure for president.
When you put up the falsification that Biden is the least popular president in history, you are, in the first place, full on lying. In the second place, you rely on the ignorance of the American people in their own history to give yourself any credibility at all. Look, there are clearly a lot of stupid people in the United States, otherwise this failed businessman turned reality TV star would never have been considered as leadership material at all. Where you make your gravest error is when you think the MAJORITY of Americans are ignorant of their history and are stupid. Rest assured, we are not. I don’t love Joe Biden, but as President he is so far superior to Donald Trump that the suggestion of replacing him with Trump would be funny if the consequences were not so serious.
Patrick, welcome to the debate, oh my, a fired-up guy.
I think the Gallup had Biden’s 13Q approval at 38.7% for the 13th Q of his Presidency and the story, abridged from many MSM stories, relates the approvals at that specific time. It is not the all time low’s, which I referenced, where Biden still leads Reagan, or the average, which may be what you are showing. It is what it is and it is not good.
Loved the rest, I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me :>) Tillerson and Kelly brought back — I love it.
Point is Trump is running not for service to his country, not for patriotism, and certainly not to serve. First time he lied about self financing his campaign, he didn’t. This time he hawking sneakers and bibles. He also said he would take no salary. No one can find his fourth-year salary donation to charity. He claimed no charity, none, on his taxes, sweet guy that he is. No, this time he is running for his life on two vectors. The first is to stay out of jail by removing all Federal charges as he weaponizes DOJ again. He hopes that will scare Georgia into retreat too. The second is Trump makes his money by selling hot air. That’s his business — branding and marketing to the rubes, rich and poor. Whether it’s his clubs where you pay a premium for the fake brands or his new market: politics, where he sells lies to the rubes to finance his legal issues. IF he gets into office, he will fulfill his life’s long dream: REVENGE.
