AOC Calls To Impeach Justices After Disliking Recent SCOTUS Rulings
As we celebrate the long Independence Day Weekend, left-wing firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has floated the idea of “impeachment” of conservative Supreme Court Justices over recent decisions that were not to her liking.
The progressive leader from NY called for investigating and possibly impeaching members of the Supreme Court over the weekend after justices issued landmark rulings days earlier with which she disagreed.
“If … Chief Justice John Roberts will not come before Congress for an investigation voluntarily, I believe that we should be considering subpoenas. We should be considering investigations,” 33-year-old Rep. Ocasio-Cortez told host Dana Bash Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“There also must be impeachment on the table. We have a broad level of tools to deal with misconduct, overreach, and abuse of power. And the Supreme Court has not been receiving the adequate oversight necessary in order to preserve their own legitimacy,” Ocasio-Cortez also said.
In the days just prior to AOC’s appearance with Bash, SCOTUS ruled on a number of landmark cases, including student loan forgiveness, affirmative action in college admissions, and freedom of speech and religion for business owners.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist, disagreed with the SCOTUS ruling that said President Biden did not have the authority to unilaterally cancel student loans via the HEROES Act.
Bizarrely, she claimed the ruling on student loan forgiveness somehow represented an “expansion of power” of the high court.
“They are expanding their role into acting as though they are Congress itself,” she said after Bash characterized Chief Justice Roberts’ opinion as saying it was up to Congress, of which she is a member, to make such changes.
AOC claimed that President Biden has the authority, through the Secretary of Education, to force taxpayers to bear the burden of others’ voluntarily undertaken school loans via the Higher Education Act.
When Bash directed the interview to a conversation about the case striking down affirmative action in college admissions, Ocasio-Cortez seized the opportunity to characterize Justice Clarence Thomas as “profoundly disrespectful” toward Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Thomas and Brown, both black, had a robust debate and disagreement around the issue of race and the portrayal of black people as victims.
Bash asked the New York representative, an avowed fan of court-packing, to respond to a clip of President Biden in an appearance Thursday on MSNBC. In the clip, Biden said starting the process of expanding the court could politicize it forever in ways that are “unhealthy” that “I can’t get back.”
“The courts, if they were to proceed without any check on their power, without any balance on their power, then we will start to see an undemocratic and, frankly, dangerous authoritarian expansion of power in the Supreme Court, which is what we are seeing now, from the overturning of abortion rights to the ruling that discrimination and, frankly, stripping the full personhood and dignity of LGBTQ people in the United States,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Yes, they are conducting themselves in opposition to her agenda. They are, GASP!!!!, following the
Constitution in their rulings. The 14th Amendment in the case of Affirmative Action, equal protection
under the law, which Affirmative Action was against. Abortion, 10th Amendment, if not in the Constitution
it falls under state laws. There were others. AOC and her cohort don’t believe in our Constitution, they
should be able to make laws any way they want to fit their Communist/Socialist agenda. To them the
Constitution gives the people to much power, power she should have.
Gosh I know this may sound crazy but it seems that the Supreme Court is returning power to ALL of the people by their latest rulings. SCOTUS is making our vote for congressional and senatorial candidates very important. We are actually getting to see how the country is supposed to work and why the founders made three separate and coequal branches of government. And I think K Brown lied in her confirmation hearing!
The commie left hates the country and our constitution
The AOC, sitting in Soros’s pocket, demands one of two things: – either for terry racism against whites and Asians, or the impeachment of SCOTUS, who stands for the equal rights of all people, who are against all types of discrimination.
This woman just constantly rambles…rambles…rambles….and when she’s done you still don’t know what the hell she’s talking about. Go back to school AOC and learn your civics(which you obviously fell alseep through). SOCIALSM SUCKS…it has failed everywhere it’s been implemented.
For the website designer not serving gays, there was no dispute between two entities to be resolved. There was no business. The gay customer to be served is not gay, does not know about any problems and has no clue what this is about. There was the State Law mandating equal public accommodations for all. The Supreme Court decided harm where no harm existed, no website existed, no customers, and the example was made up. And then, the case was determined to be of the 1st amendment and the web designer’s right not to say something her customer wanted. As in “I don’t want this speech, so it’s violating my speech.” In other words, the government cannot compel her to speak. And she can deny service to protected class of citizens essentially making them second class in an American caste system. They said this web page is speech, and I don’t want to have this speech, and so that’s violating her free speech right.
Basically, the designer said she will serve gays but will not serve them with the messages they may want. Gays no longer get equal protection under the law. Now, the question is how far will this precedent take us with denial of services to other protected groups.
Put it all together:
– the State has a law compelling equal service under the law
– the SCOTUS said that’s not Constitutional in the case of messages you don’t like, i.e. free speech says you can not be forced to provide messages that go against your convictions
– the SCOTUS overturned equal service under the law; they overturned State’s rights in this case.
– the SCOTUS accepted a hypothetical case, decided a hypothetical case, there was no actual harm presented, it was a case served up by the court to satisfy a political agenda making gays second class citizens not able to express free speech from businesses they contract with. One standard for hetero’s, a lower standard for gays.
IMO, this would be bad enough as a step back towards making gays second class, but the court is supposed to resolve disputes between entities. There was no dispute between entities here, just a hypothetical grievance. For all you who said it’s a trans thing, I told ya —– first they come for the trans….then they come for the gays……and then……
That said: AOC is a fool asking for impeachment. If Pelosi was still here AOC would be put in the penalty box for that. She is an inflammatory loud mouth that lacks decorum. But she sure ain’t Marjorie Taylor Greene either.
What we need for the SCOTUS is 1) term limits 2) binding code of ethics and behavior with a compliance officer created position 3) determine whether the “election year rule” is valid and permanent rule 4) create formal whistleblower process. I defer on the court expansion as that is a slippery slope to unlimited expansion for political purposes only.
Frank, for once I have to agree with part of your commentary. The last two paragraphs are RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!! AOC is a loud-mouthed nincompoop, who needs to be censored by the House leadership. She’s a loose cannon who has no clue about the reality of life in the 21st Century and seems to be trying to invent an ideal world where she’s the queen. Nice commentary on this.
As for the recommended changes for SCOTUS, these are valid needs. I’ve also had the thought that term limits for SCOTUS would be a great idea. Nowhere else are people allowed to keep serving, even well after they have lost touch with reality. I would suggest a term limit of 10 or 12 years, which would take a fair amount of politicization out of the appointment process and make the mix of liberal vs. conservative justices a bit harder to swing far in either direction.
I’m thinking that the recent decisions DO NOT take away the right to abortion and really didn’t abrogate the rights of people in the LGBTQ community. It left these things in the hands of the states, which is where they SHOULD be. The Constitution states that any right not specifically reserved to the Federal Government shall be determined by the States themselves. This includes the right to abortions and the right of businesses to refuse service based on our own faith in the Almighty.
I’m not anti-gay in part because I have some in the family and still love them just as much as any other family member, even though I disagree with their lifestyle. I AM anti-abortion because I believe that it is murder. In certain cases, it should still be allowed such as rape and incest, or to protect the life of the mother. However, abortion on demand for convenience I believe to be wrong. Women DO have a choice in the matter and can do what they want with their bodies. One thing they can do is say “NO!” instead of having unprotected sexual relations. They need to start realizing AS DO MEN, that they need to be cognizant of the consequences of their actions and in both cases need to take RESPONSIBILITY for these same actions. That term, “responsibility”, is something far too few people seem to accept anymore.
Gotta admit, Frank, that you’ve hit it pretty well on this article.
Spiff-ster: thanks for the kind words, yes, there can be alignment! Funny, the right just found the line and tossed MTG from the Freedom Caucus. Love to know who orchestrated that one. McCarthy? Wonder how fast she will get back in. Unfortunately not sure Jeffords will hold the reins like Pelosi. She shut them down quick post January of their accession to Congress. McConnell pretty good at this stuff too.
Look at: “I’m not anti-gay in part because I have some in the family and still love them just as much as any other family member, even though I disagree with their lifestyle” and replace gay with murder……. Now think about the person. Do you love them? Yes. Are they good citizens, good friends? Then why would their gay lifestyle even hit your radar? Now extend it to the entire community and realize, there are good people, people do make mistakes, and yes —– there are bad people, some really bad, some unredeemable. A few luckily. Let’s enjoy the good, fix the bad, root out the unredeemable, and quit worrying about the bedroom (and please EVERYONE: keep it there and out of the street, parades, performances ……
AOC need to be IMPEACHED for having a SEVERE case of the Terminal Stupids . . . she’s UNQUALIFIED.
Joey, if you’re hunting AOC due to “braggadocio,” then I got a list starting with Greene…….
