Suspect to Be Charged in Waukesha Christmas Parade Attack
Five people were killed, and 48 others were injured, including two children in critical condition, when a 39-year-old man driving a maroon SUV plowed into a crowd at a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday.
The suspect, Darrell Brooks, will be charged with five counts of first-degree intentional homicide and other offenses, according to police chief Dan Thompson.
He was fleeing a domestic violence incident that occurred moments before the tragedy.
“There is no evidence that this is a terrorist incident,” Chief Thompson said. “We have no information that Brooks knew anybody from the parade.”
One officer discharged his firearm to try to stop the suspect but did not strike Brooks or any bystanders.
“He drove right through the barricades and the officers,” Chief Thompson said. “When an officer tried to engage and stop the threat, he still continued through the crowd.
Waukesha Fire Chief Steve Howard described the “carnage” that first responders saw as they provided medical aid to the injured.
“What stands out in my mind from our conversations, we do have people with military backgrounds, and they likened it to a war zone,” Howard said.
Thompson noted that residents also immediately started working with first responders to triage victims and transport them to local hospitals.
“Minutes after the incident occurred, I responded to the scene, and what I saw out of chaos and tragedy was heroes,” Thompson said.
The five deceased victims are 81-year-old Wilhelm Hospel, 79-year-old Virginia Sorenson, 71-year-old LeAnna Owen, 52-year-old Tamara Durand, and 52-year-old Jane Kulich.

Then he calls us “the New Nazi Party” with “limp wrist followers” and promises that “they will get riots like they have never dreamed of” if, for some reason, the suspect gets off. This seems like an extreme statement. I am sure it’s just him stupidly spewing off, but it sure sounds like a pretty specific physical threat and the thought that this will be a group effort.
I just can’t see why Republicans feel it so necessary to demean, name call, personally attack people, not issues, and even threaten physical violence so often. I realize they don’t have a clue what to do, they can’t respond either out of ineptitude or lack of a coherent argument, but Christ All Mighty, why all the personal bashing.
I know, “well, you started it.”
If the liberals on this site responded in kind, and yes I know we do name call as well, but not at these levels. If we respond in kind, this will be a very different place.
And I realize these people don’t speak for the entire Republican party, although they think I do, but I don’t see any Republicans moderating this rude rhetoric which has no value except to spread pure ignorance and hatred. And I rarely see any Republicans pushing back here, or in the real world. I know if you might say that if you ignore it, they will get bored and go away, but bull. At some point, at this point, it’s time to stand up. It’s just an anonymous web site, you don’t have all that much to fear, unless you like it this way.
Moderation is needed before that happens much more I hope. I can’t imagine the moderators want this bullshit on their site. I just don’t see the ‘free speech’ benefit not moderating. Because there’s only so much being called facists, nazi, demonic, limp-wristed, and then the violent threats I feel like taking from these gentlemen. I like exercising my writing skills, or improving what little I have. I like the exchange of ideas, even with the farther-right, as long as we play fair. I realize we all slip. And I hope the moderators like the exchange too. But this is enough. This is not slippage, this is sewage. If we can’t be civil, if it’s just a name calling contest, then so be it. “So, there ‘tis.” The choice is for the moderators because these folks will not stop on their own.
