Should We Be Worried About the Delta Variant?
Officials in Sydney, Australia decided to extend a two-week lockdown to three weeks to protect the city’s largely unvaccinated population from the coronavirus and its delta variant.
As reported by NPR, less than 10% of Australian adults are fully vaccinated.
“We extended the lockdown to give us the best chance of not having another lockdown,” says New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
Residents of Sydney and the surrounding communities will be under lockdown through July 16th due to the delta variant. This prevents students from returning to class after a summer break.
According to city officials, more than 50% of the 27 new cases they reported on Wednesday were not in isolation while infectious.
There are currently 37 COVID-19 patients in Sydney’s hospitals; 7 are in critical condition including individuals in their 30’s.
Experts traced more than 300 recent infections in Australia back to a limo driver who tested positive in mid-June.

The delta variant (also known as B.1.617.2) was first detected in India. It is more contagious than the original virus. It is also more severe, carrying a hospitalization risk twice that of COVID-19.
According to the CDC, delta is on track to becoming the dominant form of COVID in the US and world. So far, the delta variant is in more than 95 countries and in all 50 US states.
“Every country that it has gone into up to now, you’ve seen an escalation in cases where it’s pushed aside the variant that was dominant before it,” warns America’s top COVID expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Research suggests COVID vaccines produced by Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca are more than 90% effective against the delta variant.
“The high-level message is that the vaccines work, two doses work better than one and the more people who get vaccinated the better,” says Dr. David Dowdy, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Fully-vaccinated individuals who become infected with the delta variant tend to develop minimal symptoms. Still, World Health Organization officials have advised everyone to wear face masks regardless of vaccination status.
The CDC continues to recommend face masks only for individuals who are not fully vaccinated.
90% effective for vaccines — that’s higher than current thinking and wishful thinking, not fact based. The J&J is even less effective. What is true is that the vaccines are very effective at stopping hospitalizations due to Delta.
plus, you left out the most salient point —- those who die in the US, those in the hospital, and most of those infected are NOT vaccinated. Over 3.3B does of the vaccines have been given without any major problems or risks. There is no product ever invented that has been more thoroughly tested less than a year into it’s product life. Not one. Most vaccines ever invented have no long term risks, it would be a real outlier if this one did.
So, all the delta variant issues go away for the entire nation IF the unvaccinated get vaccinated. All the delta variant problems, like our current increase in cases, hospitalization, and death are due to the unvaccinated, most of these are delta variant infections.
Those are the facts missing from your story.
I don’t know what your source is for these ‘facts’ but they’re not even close to true.

1. Vaccines have shown that, throughout their more than 200 year history, the only known effect has been to spread disease.
2. This is called a vaccine purely for financial reasons, i.e. call it a vaccine and you are except from all liabilities.
3. Testing has been little to non-existent.
4. They have been granted emergency use licences after showing a (faked) five per cent effectiveness.
5. The so-called “Delta variant” appear to be produced exclusively by people who have been vaccinated.

I see this as an absolute win. Vaccined people are far less likely to suffer severe complications from the Delta variant. Unvaccinated people are far more likely than those that are vaccinated to die from the Delta Variant.
Far more Republicans than Democratic voters have refused to get vaccinated. Which in the end will ultimately lead to less Republican voters.

That’s the problem with consuming a steady diet of radical right news, you actually are less informed than watching no media at all.
The UK has recorded a total of 117 deaths in people with the Delta coronavirus variant. Almost all deaths were unvaccinated people over 50… which coincides nicely with the Republican base. The Delta Variant is already the dominate strain in America, it’s only a matter of time until it starts picking off old conservatives.
Now that’s Karma.
Covid-19 is just a scare tac-tic to allow democrats to control ignorant people. It’s just another variant of the flu released by the Chinese with the graces of democrats. Covid variants are no different than flu variants.

Interesting article I just read.. LA County has had an uptick in hospitalizations of Covid patients… 1,000 a day! Guess how many of the hospitalized patients have had the vaccine?
You’re wrong, 100% of the 1,000 patients that were so sick with COVID they had to be hospitalized , were ….unvaccinated.
