85 Sharia Courts Operate in UK

Sharia law is not restricted to just the territory controlled by terrorist groups in the Middle East. In fact, Sharia courts are prominent in one of the United States’ strongest allies, the UK.

Around 85 Sharia courts are believed to be active in the UK according to research completed by Civitas. The courts were created to help Muslims in the community settle financial and domestic disputes in accordance with their faith.

Although supporters of the court do not believe they are feeding into extremism, many of the senior clerics have openly supported Islamic fundamentalism and one cleric has even called for Britain to be turned into a Sharia state.

These courts administer justice as advised by the Qur’an, which often times includes very harsh punishments for crimes including amputation for theft. Other issues supported by the clerics of this court include child marriage, marital rape and wife beating, all because the Qu’ran writes that these atrocities are legal and just.

One chilling passage from the Qu’ran that addresses wife beating states, “Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because Allah has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.” (Qur’an 4:34)

Professor Manea from Zurich University spent four years studying these courts and came to the conclusion that their radical ruling and extreme beliefs encourage “political instability and home-grown terrorism.”

After the Muslim community expressed outrage at this finding, Manea presented a case that described a woman who was forced to marry her cousin in Pakistan and then raped by him on their wedding night. When the woman brought the issue to Sharia court, the clerics rules that rape was not possible between two married individuals.

When will the British government realize that by allowing these courts to operate in their communities is allowing extremist Islamic views to spread throughout the Western world? It’s time to put an end to Sharia courts, not just in the Western world, but the entire world.
