2020 Census Will Not Include Sexual Orientation Questions

the Census Bureau release a list of proposed subjects for 2020 and &ldquo&semi;sexual orientation and gender identity&rdquo&semi;&nbsp&semi;was allegedly one of them&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">However&comma; later that day&comma; the bureau said that the topic was asked to be included by a several members of congress &lpar;Democrats&rpar; but after reviewing the questions&comma; it was determined there is no &ldquo&semi;federal need&rdquo&semi; for them&period; &nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">&ldquo&semi;The Subjects Planned for the 2020 Census and American Community Survey report released today inadvertently listed sexual orientation and gender identity as a proposed topic in the appendix&period; This topic is not being proposed to Congress for the 2020 Census or American Community Survey&comma;&rdquo&semi; said the bureau in a statement&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">The survey&comma; coined by the bureau as the &&num;8220&semi;leading source of quality data about the nation&&num;8217&semi;s people&comma;&&num;8221&semi;&nbsp&semi;has never included this category and has always focused on age&comma; race&comma; occupation&comma; marital status&comma; etc&period; But&comma; the census also gives a snapshot of same-sex households&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">&ldquo&semi;Our goal is a complete and accurate census&comma;&rdquo&semi; said John H&period; Thompson&comma; Census Bureau director&period; &ldquo&semi;In planning for the 2020 Census&comma; the Census Bureau has focused on improving its address list by using imagery&comma; finding ways to increase household self-response&comma; leveraging resources inside and outside the government&comma; and making it easier and more efficient for census takers to complete their work&period;&rdquo&semi;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">Not to mention&comma; these issues have been overexposed and overblown by the Obama administration&period; &nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">Besides that fact&comma; including gender identity questions gets complicated considering there are so many &ldquo&semi;identities&rdquo&semi; in the mix nowadays&period; &nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">&ldquo&semi;Deciding which identities to probe for&comma; though&comma; could be tricky&period; When Facebook allowed users to select a gender identity it offered dozens of options&comma; ranging from male and female to pangender and &ldquo&semi;neither&comma;&rdquo&semi; writes <em style&equals;"mso-bidi-font-style&colon; normal&semi;">The Washington Times&period;<&sol;em> &ldquo&semi;The Census had a team of experts laying the groundwork for orientation and identity questions&comma; just in case it decided to go through with it&period;&rdquo&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">Evidently&comma; liberals are calling this an attack on the LGBT community&period; GLAAD&&num;8217&semi;s CEO&comma; Sarah Kate Ellis called this a &&num;8220&semi;systematic effort on behalf of the Trump administration to erase LGBT people&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">&&num;8220&semi;Today&comma; the Trump Administration has taken yet another step&nbsp&semi;to deny LGBTQ people freedom&comma; justice&comma; and equity&comma; by choosing to exclude us from the 2020 Census and American Community Survey&period; LGBTQ people are not counted on the Census&mdash&semi;no data is collected on sexual orientation or gender identity&comma;&rdquo&semi; said Meghan Maury&comma; Criminal and Economic Justice Project Director of the National LGBTQ Task Force in a statement&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">But before these groups bash the president and his administration&comma; they should take a look at how the UK is having a similar problem&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p class&equals;"MsoNormal">&ldquo&semi;The United Kingdom is also pondering whether to add gender identity to its next national headcount in 2021&comma; saying that data is needed&period; But in a 2016 report the British Office of National Statistics said there were still many &ldquo&semi;challenges and difficulties&rdquo&semi; in collecting the information&comma;&rdquo&semi;
