I seriously doubt that the current status of the election can be changed in favor of President Trump – but it is not impossible. In that regard, the current level of reporting is AGAIN a disservice to the concept of an informed public – and to the truth to which our major media pays false homage.
Concealing the truth behind false narratives based on grossly biased wishful thinking has become the standard of modern journalism. You will only need to recall the certainty with which the liberal wing of the Fourth Estate convinced we the people that Trump had no path to the presidency in 2016.
We can also recall how so much of the media abandoned journalism to become the propaganda service for the #NeverDTrump Resistance Movement – pumping life into one false narrative after another. The corruption of the free and ethical press was clearly seen in the media’s more than two-year promotion of the false Russian collusion narrative – followed by the false Ukrainian impeachment folly.
We saw it again with the predictions of a blue tsunami that would virtually wipe out the Republican Party at every level – and lead to a humiliating route of Trump and Senate Republicans.
In each of those cases, the public was stunned – happily or unhappily – when reality upended the bogus narratives. It may be happening again.
The current narrative being shoved down the public’s throat is that there is NO chance for Trump to overtake Biden in enough states to reverse the current status of the race. It is over … period. That is not true. It may be a slim chance for Trump, but the media will not report it. Rather, they will risk dangerous public backlash and potential violence should the situation change by giving the voters – especially the Biden voters — false confidence.
It is okay to report the difficulty – or even the unlikelihood – of Trump overtaking Biden, but responsible journalists would at least report on that possibility – and explain it in detail. In fact, referring to Biden as President-elect is presumptive. Because of uncertainty, the General Services Administration (GSA) has not yet given the necessary authorization for the transition to commence. This means that Biden is not yet eligible for transition funds or to be briefed on secret subjects. A candidate is not President-elect until the election is officially certified.
Can Trump still win Pennsylvania? Yes. You need to recall that it was the STATE Supreme Court that declared that late-arriving ballots can be counted. In view of a possible challenge to the ruling in the United States Supreme Court, those ballots were ordered to be maintained separately from other ballots.
The issue is whether the Pennsylvania Supreme Court had the constitutional authority to basically change the state’s voting laws by judicial edict. How the U.S. Supreme Court will decide the issue is unknown, but there is fear among Democrats that the majority of strict constructionists on the high court may determine that the state court abused its powers.
On the other hand, the Court could invoke the “reliance doctrine” even if the lower court’s ruling was an abuse of power. The doctrine simply means that people relied on the decision and it would be unfair to disenfranchise them.
So, it IS possible that Pennsylvania could flip to Trump – reducing Biden’s 290 electoral vote lead to a bare minimum of 270 potential electoral votes. If Trump is to prevail in Alaska and North Carolina – as most believe – he would only have to pick up either Arizona or Georgia – where the current Biden lead is 15,000 and 12,000 respectively.
With votes still being counted, those are numbers that give the Trump team some hope – and then there are recounts to be considered. It is still an uphill battle, but not as steep a hill as the media would have us believe.
It is disturbing to see the extent to which the left will not tolerate facts that do not comport with their narratives. They are fighting against the rule-of-law to impose their own devotion to the rule-of-opinion. There is nothing wrong with Trump exercising his legal rights to pursue issues that can perhaps – just perhaps – swing the pendulum of victory in his favor.
Democrats and the news media want to determine the outcome in the court-of-public-opinion in a rush-to-judgement. They do not want to wait for the processes to legally unfold. They do not want to wait on official certification of results in December. They may be ahead in the top of the ninth inning — and they would rather end the game by announcing victory and walking off the field before the final half of the inning is played.
That is dangerously contrary to the rule-of-law. By promoting a widely held misbelief that Trump can only win by political chicanery, the media will again entice the radical left to do what they always do when they do not get their way – take to the streets in illegal, unconstitutional and violent riots.
Just as we were advised to be patient in waiting for the votes to be counted – in one of the slowest and most controversial processes in American history – we should sit back and wait for the Trump lawyers and the courts to complete their work. If there is any there, we will find out.
As they say about operas, it ain’t over until the fat lady sings – and in this case, Brunhilda is still in the wings.
So, there ‘tis.
