Allegations against the Hillary Clinton campaign just got worse.
On Monday, Republican Senators Chuck Grassley (IA) and Lindsey Graham (SC) released a criminal referral accusing Christopher Steele of using information provided by a Clinton operative in his infamous anti-Trump dossier.
Clinton associates were “feeding” Christopher Steele with allegations while he was compiling the anti-Trump dossier, reads the referral.
Grassley and Graham sent the referral to the DOJ in January, at which time they publicly called for an investigation into whether Steele lied to the FBI about his contacts with journalists. The memo, now published but heavily redacted, accuses Steele of misleading the FBI about his contacts with the media and claims at least one of his sources of information was a Clinton operative.
The referral references a report received by Fusion GPS from a “foreign sub source who is in touch with [redacted] a friend of the Clintons, who passed it to [redacted].”
“It is troubling enough that the Clinton campaign funded Mr. Steele’s work, but that these Clinton associates were contemporaneously feeding Mr. Steele allegations raises additional concerns about his credibility,” wrote the senators. “There is substantial evidence suggesting that Mr. Steele materially misled the FBI about a key aspect of his dossier efforts, one which bears on his credibility.”
Following the declassification of the House Intelligence Committee memo on Friday, lawmakers are now asking the DOJ and FBI to review the Steele referral and provide an unredacted copy to the Committee as soon as possible.
Editor’s note: This is the worst scandal in modern political history. The Clinton Campaign made up a story about Trump, hired someone to write it, fed the guy information, then used its operatives within the FBI and DOJ to press a criminal investigation against Trump. I still don’t see the liberal media picking this up.
