Britain was hit by another deadly terror attack last Saturday when three masked individuals drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge and then stabbed customers at a nearby bar. Seven people died and nearly 50 more were wounded.
This is the third terrorist attack to take place in the UK this year, and the nation has responded by ramping up its counterterrorism strategy.
In what a British intelligence source calls an “all hands at the pump” approach, M15 will work with Scotland Yard and the Army’s Special Air Services (SAS) to detect and prevent future attacks. This includes rounding up suspects and – if convicted – stripping them of their citizenship.
“There are a lot of Muslim strongholds in the UK from London and Luton to Birmingham, Burnley, and Blackburn. Right now, through weak policies, we have allowed the fundamentalists to spoil it for the majority,” said the anonymous source. “There is also early talk that things could go so far as banning the burka.”
In May, Austria passed a ban on full-face Islamic veils and distribution of the Quran.
Speaking on Sunday, the day after the attack, British Prime Minister Theresa May said there is “too much tolerance” of Islamist extremism. She promised that the Internet would no longer be a “safe space” for jihadism and plans to focus on how the Internet can be used to monitor and restrict such behavior.
Author’s Note: As PB’s Joe Gilberston explained in a previous article, the true purpose of these repeated terror attacks may be to polarize the population. If this is true, then the UK’s reaction is exactly what the terrorists want (because they want to rally the country’s Muslim population against the government).
This is the logical progression of terror to insurgency.
