The IRS has located 6,924 previously unacknowledged documents in response to a FOIA lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch in 2015. The IRS admitted the existence of these documents to a court on February 14th, 2017.
“The corruption at the IRS is astounding,” complains Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Our attorneys knew that there were more records to be searched, but the Obama IRS ignored this issue for years. President Trump needs to clean house at the IRS as quickly as possible.”
In 2013, the IRS was accused of “running out the clock” on nonprofit applications submitted by Tea Party groups and other conservative organziations – effectively preventing them from functioning during an election season. This blatantly illegal behavior began in 2010.
The IRS since has apologized for its “mismanagement,” and continues to argue that most high-level officials had no idea what was going on. The agency was never charged with criminal activity.
Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin demands that the IRS release the new documents to the public “so the American people can finally begin to see what the IRS has been hiding regarding their scandalous abuse of power.”
The IRS has not announced if or when it will release the documents to the public. “At this time, the Service is unable to provide an estimate regarding when it will complete its review of the potentially responsive documents,” reads an IRS Status Report.
These newly located documents were not part of the 2013 “congressional database” the IRS created to house all records related to the Tea Party scandal.
Editor’s note: Further evidence of criminal behavior within the IRS Now that we have a Republican president, the truth may come out. With a bit of luck, Obama administration officials will go to jail.
