This Wednesday, President Trump signed a set of immigration-related executive orders that will direct federal funding towards the construction of his famous border wall, strip federal funding from sanctuary cities, and streamline the deportation process.
We can expect negative and incredulous commentary from the Left, but it seems Trump is keeping his promises. “Big day planned on NATIONAL SECURITY tomorrow. Among many other things, we will build the wall!” he tweeted on Tuesday.
Less than one week in the White House and Trump is making good on some of his biggest campaign promises – satisfying supporters and alarming activists who worry about xenophobia. “I just signed two executive orders that will save thousands of lives, millions of jobs, and billions and billions of dollars,” Trump said Wednesday as he addressed an audience of 70 at the Department of Homeland Security.
His first order will direct DHS funding towards construction, and his second order will restrict access to the US for visa holders and refugees from Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Syria, Sudan, and Yemen.
“The Secretary of Homeland Security, working with myself and my staff, will begin immediate construction of a border wall,” said Trump. US law will be “enforced, and enforced strongly.”
The wall is “more than just a campaign promise,” said White House Press Sec. Sean Spicer. “This will stem the flow of drugs, crime, illegal immigration into the United States. And yes, one way or another, as the president has said before, Mexico will pay for it.”
Trump told ABC that construction will begin in “months” and predicts that “by working together” by way of economic cooperation and safe borders, “our relationship with Mexico is going to get better.”
Congress will have to approve an appropriation before the DHS can begin directing funds towards the construction of the wall.
