In just two terms, President Obama has managed to impose 101 unfunded mandates on the American people. According to a research paper released last week by the American Action Forum (AAF), these mandates cost roughly $600 billion and 100 million paperwork hours.
An unfunded mandate is a regulation or statute that requires states or local governments to perform certain duties without federal funding. To put these numbers into context, there were less than 90 unfunded mandates imposed between the years 1996 and 2008.
There were 56 unfunded mandates enacted during the Bush Administration, and just 32 during the Clinton Administration.
President Obama signed more than 10 unfunded mandates in 2015 alone – heaping a burden of $35 billion and 75 million paperwork hours on the states.
The Unfunded Mandates Reform Act (UMRA) of 1995 was created to prevent Washington from forcing too many unfunded mandates on state and local governments, but unfortunately this law didn’t stop the Obama Administration from enacting more than 100 unfunded mandates in just 8 years.
If you were to average the cost of these mandates across the nation, they would amount to about $1,800 per person.
States do not deserve such an undue burden, but they will continue to suffer if Hillary Clinton is elected in November. In regards to unfunded mandates, you can expect a Hillary Clinton Administration to follow in Obama’s footsteps.
As we have written in great detail here, Clinton’s socialist-inspired economic platform promises to be even worse than her predecessor’s.
Editor’s note: Politicians have a great time giving out free money, especially when its other peoples money.
