More than 13,000 emails were posted to the DCLeaks website this week, including a very interesting audio file in which Hillary made some not-so-nice comments about Sanders supporters.
She described Sanders supporters as “new to politics completely,” explaining that they desire to be part of a revolution because their lives aren’t going as planned.
Her words are part of a private speech she gave to campaign donors back in February.
“And they are living in their parents’ basement,” she said. “They feel they got their education and the jobs that are available to them are not at all what they envisioned for themselves. And they don’t see much of a future.”
Clinton expressed bewilderment with “xenophobic” far-right voters and socialist-leaning far-left voters, claiming that she herself occupies the space “from the center-left to the center-right.”
Hillary criticized progressive goals like free healthcare and free college, stating that she doesn’t want to “overpromise.” In other words, she doesn’t want to “tell people things that I know we cannot do.”
Donald Trump pounced on the opportunity to drive a wedge between Sanders and Clinton, stating this weekend that “Hillary Clinton thinks Bernie supporters are hopeless and ignorant basement dwellers.”
The hacked audio file was revealed last week by the Free Beacon, whose hackers were able to breach the email account of Clinton campaign staffer Ian Mellul.
Mellul, who has volunteered for the Clinton campaign since 2015, has been paid over $10,000 for “event consulting” and reimbursements. Some believe he has ties to Fancy Bear, one of Russia’s most prominent hacking organizations.
The leaked emails come directly after a key rally in which Sanders attempted to sway Democrats with lingering doubts about Hillary’s candidacy, and Clinton’s derisive comments threaten to reopen the rift between Hillary and her former rival.
