If you turn on the mainstream media, you will find story after story about how Bernie Sanders is igniting the passion of young America and is appearing to gain momentum against the front runner Hilary Clinton. This shift in momentum is to be expected when considering Clinton’s weak performance, the ever developing details of her negligence and deceit through her email server, and her decades-long reputation of being an untrustworthy individual.
Bernie is gaining steam with 7 straight victories in the primary election, some of them by wide margins. His supporters are demanding that Superdelegates, the gatekeepers for the Democratic Party, flip sides in the election and support Bernie. Currently, 469 Superdelegates are supporting Hilary Clinton, only 31 supporting Sanders.
In addition, according to polls, Sanders is doing better against Republican candidates in the general election than Hilary Clinton. So a casual observer should look at this and see a supposed obvious truth, that Sanders is the stronger candidate and should therefore be supported in the primary by the party. But so far, that support has been silent. The lingering question to all of this is Why?
Let’s begin by saying that Sanders is not the charming, befuddled old man that his followers have made him out to be. He has a past. He joined the Liberty Union Party and ran for public office on a platform of the nationalization of banks, the nationalization of utility companies, and a worker-controlled federal government. He has associations with former enemies of the state such as the Soviet Union.
He has associations with Daniel Ortega and other Communist dictators. He spent several years in an Israeli kibbutz (a communal farming community), Kibbutz Sha’ar Ha’amakim, a Stalinist-Leninist community that viewed Joseph Stalin as “Sun of the Nations”. This is only a short list of some of the radical past of Bernie Sanders.
Now of course, many of you, my readers, are troubled that you haven’t heard this elsewhere. Surely I, your author, cannot possibly be the only one who knows this.
I am not. It’s readily available and easy to find. Then why no mention of it? Because it is a key factor in why Bernie Sanders is not winning over the Democratic Party.
The cynic in me would like to believe that the reason is because Hilary is such a party elite and has been for such a long time that she has developed herself as a mainstay leader and has insurmountable influence over bigwigs. Trust me, that’s a factor in this as well, but its Sanders’ past that is getting everyone in the political world antsy.
The Democratic Party knows this information about Bernie as much as I do. Thus, they could never run a guy like that.
Think about the golden opportunity that would present to the Republicans. The Republicans too know this information, but are keeping it locked away in a war chest for the general election, in case, of course, Sanders pulls it off. They want him in the general election. It would be perfect for them. They’d have a self-described Socialist running for president, a word that is still a swear word in this country and one the Democrats have tried relentlessly to avoid.
Commercials with Hammers and Sickles everywhere. Videos of him making outrageously radical political assertions juxtaposed next to Stalin, Mao, or Kim Jong Un. Op-ed pieces in newspapers wondering if Sanders was a traitor and should be prosecuted for it.
He will not only push away independents and Blue-dog Democrats, he will alienate large segments of the Hispanic community particularly Nicaraguans (the Ortega thing will not be well accepted I assure you), Cubans (who came here to escape Socialism and the Cuban government insists it is Socialist not Communist), and Venezuelans (who are just about as fed up with Socialism as it can get). He will damage down ballot candidates as well. He has provided next to no money for Senate and Governor Races and none of them will want to be associated with a Communist by the end of the election losing them their biggest cheerleader.
The Democrats are in a bigger pickle then the Republicans, regardless of the circus you see on TV. They are deciding between a Socialist-almost-Communist who has the popularity and a Corrupt, lying, on the verge of being indicted woman who has next to no voter enthusiasm.
The party has shifted so far left as a whole, the bigwigs don’t know what to do about it. Their people are calling for radicalism and the centrists are leaving the party to either become independent or even joining the Republicans. Despite the problems the Republicans have in this election, the Democrats are in even more trouble than they are letting on. They have to run with a weak and inept candidate whose one advantage is name recognition.
An advantage that is turning out to be a disadvantage. Yet, she is somehow more palatable than the surging Bernie Sanders. Yeah, they have problems.
