Before Bernie Sanders chose a career in politics, he lived life without a steady paycheck for 40 years.
Sanders attended the University of Chicago but was still unable to find work after graduation, not earning a steady paycheck until his first government check as mayor of Burlington.
One of his first jobs involved registering people for food stamps, and after that he jumped from job to job never settling down with a steady career. After his first wife left him, he went on unemployment and had a child out of wedlock. He dabbled in carpentry, although he failed to master the skills needed for this position and quickly gave up.
He attempted to earn a career as a freelancer, earning around $50 a story, but still drove around in a beat up, worn down car and dealt and oftentimes had his electricity turned off.
Desperate, he turned to politics where he launched his own socialist party and ran for Vermont public office four separate times. Each time he failed to gain more than a single-digit percentage of voters. Finally, he made his way into the Senate in 2006 where he sits as one of the least wealthy members of Congress. He has absolutely no assets to his name outside of his municipal pension.
The fact that Sanders has not achieved much of anything in his life shows that his politics are rooted in envy for the successful citizens of America. How can a man who has been unable to find success in his own life possibly lead this country on the right path?
