“We have learned the hard way when America is absent, especially from unstable places, there are consequences. Extremism takes root, aggressors seek to fill the vacuum and security everywhere is threatened, including here at home. That’s why Chris was in Benghazi,” Mrs. Clinton said during her recent Benghazi testimony.
What Mrs. Clinton leaves out is who made Libya an unstable place to begin with. The militant Islamists who currently run the former capital city of Tripoli are the same people once called “moderates” at the beginning of this crisis.
In the case of Libya, a secular nation was deposed by American funded and backed “moderates” who later were revealed to be extremists. Does this not sound like the very same scenario occurring today in Syria? When President Gaddafi, a former ally in America’s war on terror, was killed in the street, a power vacuum was created that sank the entire region into disorder.
However, according to Mrs. Clinton’s quote, she believes the issue was not in the funding of untested rebels, nor was it supporting groups aiming to dismantle an American ally (much like Egypt, which Hillary also supported the demise of).Rather, the error was not keeping American troops on the ground with American funded Islamic extremists.
President Obama acknowledged in his U.N. General Assembly speech last month that the U.S. and its allies “could have and should have done more to fill the vacuum left behind” in Libya after pounding the nation with airstrikes and arming rebels who ultimately killed Gadhafi in October 2011. Much like Mrs. Clinton, there is no acknowledgement of the true problem, that funding Jihadists is not a good idea.
While many have criticized the Republican policies of “nation building,” the Democrats simply desire nation destroying – trusting that Jihadists will see the light of Democracy and put down their weapons for a chorus of “We Are The World.” This delusion has cost the lives of at least a half million people so far, from Libya to Syria.
Based on these quotes, there is no doubt Mrs. Clinton will continue to attempt the Democratic goal of destroying Syria, another secular, formerly stable regime. Worse than even Libya, which Mrs. Clinton “learned a lesson from,” we can expect American tax dollars and blood to pay for the rebuilding process.
