We may see the headline Hillary Clinton Beaten by a Socialist! in upcoming months. The latest polls show Bernie Sanders leading in New Hampshire over Hillary Clinton by 9 points. And he’s hot on her tail in Iowa.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has emerged as the clear leader in the nearby state of New Hampshire, eclipsing Hillary Clinton by nearly 10 percent in the most recent poll. As support for Hillary Clinton continues to erode, more and more voters are starting to turn their eyes to the socialist candidate. Not only does he lead by 9 points in New Hampshire, but he’s about to catch up to the Former Secretary of State in Iowa.
According to two NBC/Marist polls conducted between August 26th and September 2nd, Sanders scored 41 percent of the vote in New Hampshire to Clinton’s 32 percent. A hopeful 16 percent are holding out for Vice President Joe Biden.
A similar poll in July showed Clinton with 42 percent of the vote and Sanders with 32 percent. Biden’s score was 12 percent.
Clinton is still the leader in Iowa, but Sanders is quickly closing the gap. Clinton scored 49 percent in July. That number plummeted to 38 percent this month. Sanders enjoyed a quarter of the vote during the summer and as of September has climbed an additional 3 percent.
The data above reflects 998 voters in Iowa, 345 of which are Democratic potential caucus-goers. In New Hampshire, 966 voters participated in the poll, 356 of which are Democratic potential primary voters.
It will be interesting to see who Biden’s supporters choose if the Vice President decides not to join the race. A “no” from Biden might be all Sanders needs to secure the win.
