Rand Paul vowed to defund Planned Parenthood after the release of two gruesome videos that caught the nation’s biggest abortion provider in the act of selling baby body parts. Last Friday he invoked ‘Rule 14,’ which allowed his legislation to speed through the normal Senate process.
A physician by profession, Rand Paul invoked Rule 14 to fast-track his bill to defund Planned Parenthood. The Senate vote may come as early as this week. Rule 14 allows legislation to bypass committee process and land a spot on the Senate calendar for a floor vote.
“Since the inhumane acts of Planned Parenthood have surfaced, I have vowed to defeat and defund this taxpayer-funded organization. I am more appalled than ever by Planned Parenthood’s complete disregard for the sanctity of human life,” said the Kentucky Senator. “Today, I implemented Rule 14 and fast-tracked legislation to strip every dollar of Planned Parenthood funding. I will continue to lead this charge in defense of the unborn.”
Not only is Planned Parenthood under fire from Rand Paul – and by association, the Senate – but the abortion provider also faces investigations from three House committees and seven State Governments.
Paul’s actions came shortly after a scathing accusation by Senator Ted Cruz against Senate Majority Leader McConnell claiming McConnell tried to prevent a vote on Paul’s legislation.
