According to Fox News, the owners of a small Christian bakery in Oregon are facing a hefty fine and even the loss of their home – all for refusing to bake a $200 wedding cake.
Aaron and Melissa Klein are facing a $135,000 fine – and if they don’t pay – a lien against their house for refusing to bake a cake for a lesbian wedding. “This is intimidation and bullying,” said Aaron Klein after he and his wife were smacked with a gag order making it illegal for the Kleins to talk about or advertise the fact that they prefer not to serve gay customers.
The Kleins’ decision to refuse service to lesbian couple Rachel Cryer and Laurel Bowman was based on religious convictions. Sweet Cakes by Melissa has never before refused service to gay couples, but when asked to bake a cake that would be the centerpiece to a same sex wedding, the owners just had to say no. Aaron and Melissa worry that if they pay the fine now and win the appeal later, they might never get their money back.
The couple has five children and can’t afford to loose over $100,000.
Many believe the recent Supreme Court decision to legalize gay marriage across the country had nothing to do with gay rights, but was actually the beginning of a nationwide effort by the left to persecute Christians. While supporters of the new same sex marriage law preach tolerance, Christians are being threatened, harassed, and fined. And small businesses are sure to suffer the most.
The Klein story is not about gay rights. This is persecution of Christianity in America.
