The Far Left has accused Harry Reid of being a racist and “insulting the black community.” Although it’s relatively normal for Democrats to accuse Republicans of racism, their reasoning in this case is particularly nonsensical. Reid recently endorsed a senatorial candidate who is not black. Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski is retiring and her seat is now up for grabs. Naturally, Reid decided on the Democratic candidate he would like to see replace her and offered an endorsement.
Steve Phillips, who founded the progressive organization PowerPAC+, took exception to that and was quick to slam Reid for supposedly being racist by endorsing a white candidate when there is a black candidate also vying for the seat. There is nothing to indicate that Reids choice was made based on race. In fact, it seems that Phillips is the one who is choosing candidates based solely on race, and expecting others to do so as well. Phillips claimed that it was “insulting, period,” that Reid endorsed a white candidate at all. “But to do it on the anniversary of the Selma 50th anniversary,” he continued, “to make an endorsement that would make the Senate less diverse — is outrageous and insulting.”
I suppose this means that Phillips won’t be voting for Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden in the 2016 presidential election if Dr. Ben Carson is also running?
