We all know that the Republican Party has no shortage of good candidates. The Democrats- not so much. We know Hillary is running, and we also know that there’s no way she’ll make it in the general election given that even some Democrats don’t like her and she’ll never get the moderates. Who else could the Democrats possibly run? Let’s take a look at some other potential candidates and their chances.
1. Joe Biden
He hasn’t officially announce that he’s running, but he’s dropped some pretty big hints. He recently visited Iowa, the usual first stop on the campaign trail. He’s said that ‘there’s a chance’ he’ll challenge Hillary. There’s much less of a chance that a presidential run will get him anywhere. Crazy Uncle Joe is carrying too much baggage.
His loyalty to Obama is by far his biggest problem. When Obama lost the moderate Democrats, he lost Obama too. Really, Obama has done a lot to sabotage Biden’s chances at the 2016 nomination. Remember, ‘Then me an Joe will act alone?’ You could see Biden in the background wishing that Obama wouldn’t have dragged him into this, but he said nothing. So far Biden has done nothing but back Obama, and that’s going to cost him. People who are sick of Obama’s crap aren’t going to want his sidekick taking over.
Aside from that, Biden is a complete gaffe-factory. On the campaign trail with Obama, he seemed to do nothing but screw up and embarrass himself. Can you see him trying to debate someone like Ted Cruz or Christ Christie? (Actually, now we’re kind of hoping this happens just because it would be hilarious.)
2. Elizabeth Warren
Rumor has it that grassroots Democrats are looking for Warren to run. Although Hillary is the favorite among powerful Democrats, a former Obama adviser let it slip that this is not the case among the party base. Perhaps the average Democrat voter has come to realize that Hillary won’t stand a chance in the general election. Warren would seem like the logical choice here. She doesn’t have all of Hillary’s scandals, but she’s well known enough that people won’t be wondering where the heck she came from all of a sudden. There’s just one problem here: she’s basically a clone of Hillary Clinton. They might as well be the same person. They have the same opinions on all the issues, they think alike, they support all the same causes, and they even look and act alike. The two are practically married.
She also says she’s not running. If she does, the resulting catfight when Hillary realizes what’s going on will be perhaps the most entertaining thing ever televised.
3. Andrew Cuomo
He hasn’t yet done anything to suggest that he’s running yet, but he’s in a position to. Cuomo is perhaps the scariest person on this list. He singlehandedly forced gay marriage past his state’s legislature, despite their objections. He also signed new, stricter gun control laws into effect. He shares Obama’s dictator mentality, and many liberals love him. However, he’s done a few things that might come back to haunt him in the primaries.
For one, he cut union pensions, which other candidates are sure to use against him. He also comes from a wealthy political family, which will have attack ads screaming ‘out of touch one-percenter!’
So he’s still a little bit of a longshot.
